We went to drop off family. Given the covid situation, the staff and security arrangements were good. Everyone was very patient, responsive and helpful.

Melbourne airport is probably the best airport i have ever i have been to. The service is fast, the workers are kind, and they shut late at night so planes don't fly over and wake people up. It is a great place and the concierge lounges are also the best in the world. So next time you are coming to Australia, remember that you want to come to Melbourne because it has the best airport and is the best state

I been working in the airport for around 6 years, and that was 10 years ago. The place has not change at all. The only new area is were virgin lounge is. The other locations are still the same. It has not change since the last 80s. The cost inside the airport is the same as going into any city cost a lot.

They need another airport build in Victoria. There is plenty of acres along the Hume highway. It would be good to build a new airport, with a shopping center inside, and also a full restaurants, and more car space, and also a better design for the travelers.
Most countries oversea have 2 airports in each state.
Australia is far behind of most things. And what they did to the airport, it's going backwards not forward.

    Careless customer service for parking

Parked valet in here and got very little information on arrival if we were in the right area. Eventually told we were.

Charged twice on the way out. Raised next day by calling and made to go through online form submissions and forms for their own error. No refund yet week and half later and no care from customer service team to resolve.

Very simple to fix what they have double charged for

Would give 0 stars if I could.
Have lived in Melbourne all my life and dread going to this airport, it really is the worst part of going on holidays.
Anyway, recently I was at the airport picking up relatives. We parked in short term parking. Our relatives arrived and their baggage carousel broke down which took over 1 hour to fix. It took over 2 hours for our relatives to get out of the airport from the time they disembarked their plane. I also ended up paying $29 for parking. I wrote a complaint to Melbourne airport about the whole experience and got this reply: "As the airlines and car park are not affiliated the charges must apply"

    Bloody horrible airport.

We departed via the Melbourne Airport for an international flight.
The airport checkin is quite smooth and the staff are professional. However after the customs clearance, the whole departure area was in a mess as it was still under renovation.
When we entered the departure lounge (gate 3) it was a small area and it was got really crowded as more and more people squeezed into the lounge while waiting for the gates to open. Passengers do not feel happy at all at this airport.
Despite the mess, ground staff was still professional and polite to the frustrated passengers.
Customs officers were indifferent when we were going through the customs. A smile can go a long way, I guess they do not practice that at this airport.
Note to visitors: as the airport is undergoing renovation, the toilets are located very far from the gates at the shopping area, and there isn’t any visible drinking water fountain for visitors.
The reason why the airport has a 2 stars rating is because of the patience shown by the ground staff. I would have given it one star based on the harrowing experience at the airport alone.

Worst international airport in Australia. Lack of amenities, walked 200 meters to find a bathroom, and only two spots in there. Need to queue up for 10-15mins at least. Low ceiling at almost everywhere in the airport which creates lots of tension and pressure to the travelers. My recommendation for those who are traveling to Australia from overseas, seriously please consider arrive and departure from Brisbane, way easier and 100 times more comfy!!

Lack of facilities, shopping options, resting area, information signage, change of gate information, security/custom/immigration arrangement, entertainment area, and etc. Try to learn from other good airports, and they don't charge for a lots of things.
And some of the toilets are quite dirty.
It just a small tiny airport compare with lots others, should be able to do much better.
The people who think it's a 4/5 star airport, you haven't been to any good airport before. Yes, it's better then some of the airports if you want to compare with the bad one. But we are not a 3rd world poor country. And we been charged more for everything.

Customs and border control need to learn manners. Some of them talk to people like cattle. I went in the family passport lane by accident and had this guy scream and me from far making me extremely embarrassed unnecessarily. "Out! Out!" He shouted. How about "sorry sir you seem to be in the wrong lane".

Luvkily a custom officer checking my bag was polite and understanding. They need to remember that people ofter go through more than 20 hours of flights and are exhausted.

No lane for people with disability and special needs going pass customs today. People in wheelchair and parents with multiple young kids had to wait in the long lane with all other people. Not enough staff at custom and security screening. Some staff are rude even to people with disability. The standard of service at this airport has gone downhill significantly in recent years.

Who charges for a trolley these days? Massive lack of eateries yet the world's biggest duty free, layout does not flow, lack of seating, charging points/work spaces.

Pretty the crappiest airport in the world considering it's a first world country.

    And I've been to hundreds.

The most important thing when being in an international airport is power points for your phone/tablet/laptop to kill time. There's not much around and the ones I found were turned off, instead they put a vending machine up that sells power banks for your phone. Absolute disgrace for an airport this size.
Signage is not clear enough in areas to find where you have to go.
Singapore airport is easier to navigate than this.

    Racist

The departure staffs treat us differently maybe because my mom use hijab. But the arrival staffs just treat us the same like other people.

Really dislike the departure staffs. So rude

But the volunteer workers who wear blue uniform are good. Very helpful than the staffs who wear black uniform

Horrible layout from the check-in counter to gate.
Waited almost an hour just to get to the tax return counter.
Staff called out to people from the BACK of the queue to proceed to the express counter (that had just opened up) when they should have asked people who were at the front of the queue to proceed to the express counter first.
Staff was also rude when I came back asking whether they have seen my my carry-on bag (that I accidentally left behind after frantically finishing up my tax return application and had to rush to my gate and only realized that I left my bag behind on my way to the gate).
Yes, it was my fault that I left my bag behind. But I am also travelling alone. Waited about an hour just to submit a tax return for only 2 receipts. Only reaching the gate just before closing. So I don't think the staff really needed to lectured me on "Why I shouldn't have left my bag unattended" (accompanied by a rude school principal tone of voice).
Obviously, no one wants to lose their bags.

I flew QANTAS weekly for business for several years. In-out no nonsense. Travelling with a family just got better with the new terminal but the lack of a Qantas lounge in the new terminal is a bit disappointing.

The only good thing about this Airport is the city that it serves.
There are too many queues in Immigration, especially getting out. Why should we have to queue to leave? Baggage handling tends to be slow, I have waited up to half an hour for my carousel to burst into life.
You get made to walk a long distance looping around Duty Free, which is very customer unfriendly.
There are hardly any places to eat (ironic in the foodie heaven). The terminal is dirty, hard to believe this is a first world airport.

The recent renovations are very welcome, if long overdue - Domestic finally has a decent food court. Transport to and from is woeful - there's a packed bus that takes way too long to get in to the city or you can catch a cab for $50-$60. It's farcical that one of Australia's largest cities doesn't have a rail link to its international airport.
