Family style Malaysian cooking in heart of Murrumbeena, Malay Cottage, can offers you a great and delicious journey with authentic Malaysian dishes. Honestly, the chilli fried tofu for entree is one of the best options to be picked up, following with roast pork fried rice and Singaporean noodles, I believe that you get out with full belly. Because all this wasn't enough for two people we had classic roti with salsa, to make us full 🌝🌝🌝. I like the small environment, give you feeling that is a really cottage too. Recommended to all to try it and hit a comment too.
🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾 AFFORDABLE LOCAL MALAYSIAN FOOD
My wife and I dined here on a quiet Monday evening and tucked into some tasty hawker styled Malaysian food.
🍜🍚The Assam laksa was not too spicy, used real sardines and had the right flavours; the wan tan hor was delicious and generous in portion size; and the Hainanese chicken rice was tasty and tender (although the chicken had bones which may be off putting for some!)
🙋Whilst service was scant, it was quick and we didn’t mind as it allowed my wife and I to enjoy ourselves.
💰Pricing is also affordable (and around $15-$17 a dish), especially for todays standards and the area it is in.
We can’t wait to come back and try the other menu items!
When we entered the restaurant, I told the restaurant staff (only 1 staff in service) that I made the booking via the Fork and will be using the Yums points for 50$ discount. I just received a neutral reaction. For the whole lunch session, the staff was neither courteous, smiling nor hospitable, which made us think whether we are welcomed here or not. The quantity of the food is great. At the end, the staff told, they don't accept yums points, and so have to pay the bill in full. If this has been told upfront when we entered, we would not have dined in at all. Never returning to this place again.
Recommended by someone in Melbourne, I rang the day before to place my takeaway order of seafood laksa, char kway teow, hainanese chicken rice, winter melon pork rib soup, nasi goreng, mixed vegetables with prawns, roast duck and chicken satay and some additional chicken rice.
I must say, food was really good, my favourites were the char kway teow and roast duck but everything was delicious. Portions were generous and the seafood fresh and plentiful.
Everyone loved the dinner.
Hidden gem tucked away in MRB. The Laksa rivaled that of Laksa King - dare I say outshone it. Was excellent. My fussy 8yo devoured the wonton soup, and my husband enjoyed the Peking Duck and sweet and sour chicken. Oh and their fried rice was some of the tastiest I have ever had. Thoroughly impressed, decently priced and would highly recommend. We got it for take out a couple weeks after we ate there and it was equally as good! We’ll be back.
