A modern classic new look of Gus' Place with beautiful interior and outdoor atmosphere, but the best experience was their Amazing food..!!! loved the shakshuka and the calamari salad and enjoyed my *exotic" mango splash..!! Best coffee I've had. Great friendly service.
Fast efficient service. It was very wet today being a partially outdoor cafe but staff tried to accomodate customers as best as they could. Thanks for the delicious eggs benny and coffee.
Amazing food, very attentive and friendly service. Best coffee I've had in Canberra so far and the temperature and was perfect, something not often achieved by many cafes. Their newly refurbished interior is lovely too! I will definitely go back and very keen to try their new dinner menu soon!
All in all a very pleasant experience. You guys nailed it!
I've been here a few times and it's always a great experience. The coffee is great, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is a peaceful bubble in the bustle of civic(mostly due to all of the plants everywhere). However, the true highlight is the food. The menu is so good that it's hard to choose, but the standout to me was the shakshuka. I had never tried a middle eastern breakfast dish but it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in canberra. I think with Gus' Place they've managed to take a Canberra classic and make it even better.
Newly refurbished and looking good I dropped in for a coffee with a few work colleagues. We were squished into a table that sat right in front of a swinging door. Each time someone moved through the door it hit the back of my chair.
Unfortunately the girl mucked up the coffee orders. We didn't mention it out of politeness. She manage to get the food order wrong as well but we asked them to correct it. It wasn't busy so I'm not sure how the girl mucked up the order so badly.
Price wise, I was shocked that a coffee and toast with butter cost $11. Guess I paid $6-$7 for two pieces of toast. Maybe that's what the going rate is these days I'm not too sure.
We all had a little bit of a chuckle at the experience after we left. It's pretty safe to say we'll choose elsewhere for future coffee meets. Hope things get a bit better for Gus's place.
Lovely brunch with the family. The staff were so nice and the food was scrumptious. Came in a group of 6 and not one complaint. Happy days
Tried the newly opened Gus' for brunch today. Cafe was buzzing and packed to the brim but service was top notch. Staff were excellent and the mac and cheese burger is a must try.
I have been looking forward to this place reopening for ages. When I looked at the new menu I was worried that they had lost their original charm with good, basic, diner style food. WOW! I had a toasted Ruben sandwich and a salted caramel milkshake. SOOOOOO good. A bit pricey but the service was great so happy to pay. The new interior is lovely and the place was packed at lunchtime on a Saturday. Well done guys and welcome back Gus's.
KFC burger was well put together, the bun and chips good, the sauce was okay. The chicken itself had an incredible texture however I was a bit let down for the taste. It needs another ingredient, either a stronger mayo or some other ingredient added to it. Very quick service so overall I enjoyed it
Staff were very accommodating for a group who were cold, closing the out door section and moving 3 tables to keep the warmth in. Food was excellent, and simple. No excessive flavours, and very fresh ingredients. I'll be coming back.
A Canberra institution. The food is expensive, the coffee is nothing amazing, but it is awfully convenient.
Gus' Cafe did great Chai Lattes, a shame that they closed down.
Been here a few times, they serve a decent breaky but it can get quite busy. Some the tables have uneven legs.
Been here a few times on weekends. The atmosphere is certainly nice outside in the greenhouse-style inside area in front of the main restaurant floor. The milkshakes are delicious and are very generous in terms of how much they give you. I have also had the nachos which were great. A tad expensive, but not ridiculous. Overall, I'd definitely go again.
As visitors to Canberra we wandered around looking for a nice place to eat and after 20 minutes we found Gus'. We were glad that we did because their risotto was great and the chili con carne nachos were awesome.
The staff were very accommodating and explained that we can go buy a bottle of wine and bring it back and no-one will mind. Score!
So we did and I had the nachos, then a week later I had the nachos again. Then 3 days later I wanted to get the nachos another time but my partner said to try something else. Next week I'll have my nachos again, that's how good they are.
It's a relaxed environment with an outdoor enclosed section with fans and heaters in case the weather gets weird. Every time we've been there the Police show up and go inside for coffee and a brown bag of something so I'm assuming the coffee is awesome too and the police either love their muffins or Gus is paying the authorities off. Either way, their nachos are awesome.
Definitely give Gus' Cafe a try if you're in the area, I'm sure the locals know how good it is so they can ignore my review.
