Frankston City is a predominantly residential area, with some rural residential, industrial, commercial and rural areas, holding a population of approximately 129,000. The City is served by the Frankston Freeway, the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, and the Moorooduc Highway, the Nepean Highway, the Frankston-Dandenong Road, the Dandenong-Hastings Road and the Frankston railway line, with stations at Frankston, Kananook and Seaford.

Frankston's beach offers excellent recreational facilities and activities for all age groups. The Frankston Yacht Club was founded in 1937 by a group of yachting enthusiasts operating out of Kananook Creek and this year celebrates its 75th anniversary. Since its inception, the Club has maintained a policy of promoting yachting in the area of Port Phillip Bay and, as a result, the Club has prospered and grown.

The Yacht Club has been involved in educating people of all ages to sail for many years with the assistance of volunteers who donated their time and effort to assist the club.
