Hands down one of the best gyms I've ever been to. The best part is that it's like on big family, the staff are friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for more

Fernwood Canberra City feels like my home away from home! The staff are always friendly and helpful and I've made so many friends amongst the members. One of the best gyms I've ever been to.

I've been with this club for 6 years and couldn't recommend it more! Amazing staff, wonderful members and the best atmosphere. Extremely friendly and helpful with a huge range of options for members in club.

The staff at Fernwood are extremely friendly and helpful. I am always greeted with a smile and feel that the staff is happy to be there and help me with questions.

My wife went to Fernwood Tuggeranong for a 7 day FREE trial!
English is not her native language.
She was asked to sign membership forms and a direct debit form. She was not told it was a contract and that it had a 7 day cooling off period. She was not given time to read it and it was not explained to her. She was not offered to take it home and read it or show me.
She became unemployed and never went to the health club.
They debited her account for $205 and then $77 every 2 weeks. They emptied her account.
I asked them to cancel her membership and then they asked for $547 in cancellation fees and threatened her with a debt collector.
This all happened in 3 months. That’s $906 in 3 months. The yearly fee was to be $1188
Make sure you don’t sign ANYTHING! Take it home and read it then you will walk away!
Even if you cancel within the cooling off period then they will demand excessive cancellation fees.

First I would like to say the review is based on my personal experience and yours might be completely different.
A friend of mine from Sydney introduced this gym to me, so I decided to give it a try. I pick the one in Canberra city because it is close to where I live. When I walked into the gym, I was 'greeted' by a receptionist with a poker face and she remained that face though out my enrollment. Worse, she got irritated just because I asked her to repeat a couple of questions. This is when she started to comment on my English skill. The conversation ended unpleasantly and I decided to raise it to the manager regarding her attitude and the inappropriate comment. All I want was an apology from the receptionist.
Her manager came out, told me she cannot force the receptionist to apologise if the receptionist doesn't want to, otherwise this will be counted as workplace bullying. I just cannot believe what I have heard and withdrawn my application and walked out straight away. Please be noted that their gym is not cheap, my planned membership will cost $2400 a year. I guess I should feel glad this happened before I actually paid.
I will not go there ever again. I will also tell all my friends my experience and they can then decide if they want to attend a gym like that.response / report this review
