I had a relatively positive experience with Dr. Scamp and his team… Until they had secured my money, after which their tone and customer service changed dramatically. My surgery (open-tip rhinoplasty) was ultimately cancelled t-minus 13-days(!) before surgery. Before this, I had very happily placed my utmost faith and trust in Dr. Scamp’s expertise, concerning a surgery that would forever change my face (despite the fact that he came across as quite socially inept). It has been an absolute blessing in disguise to have had this procedure cancelled.
1. CANCELLATION OF SURGERY: Two weeks before surgery, I was provided with the final documentation outlining the scheduled medical procedure. This was labelled as an ‘Open-tip septo-rhinoplasty with cartilage grafts’. I called the practice seeking clarification on the latter as, at no point during my official consultation sessions with Dr. Scamp, where the medical procedure had been relayed, had ‘cartilage grafts’ been mentioned. Even if this is a standard procedure that is normal and expected during this sort of surgery, it is a surgeon’s duty of care to alert a patient, especially if there is a chance that cartilage will be taken from elsewhere on the body. Furthermore, I had previously been assured that I could seek clarification and speak to Dr. Scamp if any concerns arose before or after the surgery. Following this request for information, Dr. Scamp called me to advise that he has no patience for anyone who required such clarifications. He then (most bizarrely!) asserted that he would not perform the surgery, owing to this request. Dr. Scamp’s flippant and unwarranted response was nothing less than puzzling, and I continue to feel dumbfounded as to how this outcome came to be, after what I thought was an amicable and trusting relationship. Bizarre!
2. CONSULTATIONS: Before the above, I had only officially spoken to Dr. Scamp twice: during the first (in-person) and second (phone) consultations. During both, I felt that Dr. Scamp was a poor listener and unwilling to comprehend what I wanted. The second phone consultation (prior to surgery) was less than 10-minutes, and Dr. Scamp offered me no advice in terms of surgery aftercare, or what to expect on the day at the hospital. Instead, I had to take the initiative to ask most of the questions based on my own research (e.g. regarding arnica, cleaning up the wound-site and so on).
3. DISCREPANT INFORMATION: I note that, throughout this process, information provided by admin staff has been discrepant with information provided by Dr. Scamp, pertaining to the surgery process, after care and what Dr. Scamp specializes in.
4. RHINOPLASTY CONFIDENCE: Upon reflection, I don’t think that Dr. Scamp is very comfortable in his ability to perform rhinoplasties. On more than one occasion, Dr. Scamp emphasized that he finds this surgery very complex, noting that this is why his other colleagues on the Gold Coast do not perform them. Furthermore, Dr. Scamp repeatedly seemed to bring up the names of other surgeons who conduct rhinoplasties. For the record, the reception staff also frequently make it out as if the practice is always horribly busy and in high demand. In reality, my first consultation session took place in mid-July, at which point, no surgeries had even been booked for September.
> My advice is, trust your gut. Don’t place your body and life in a surgeon’s hands, unless you absolutely love them. If this man refused to perform surgery on me due to a valid request for a simple 2-minute phone call to understand something that he had previously failed to explain, imagine how unobliging he would have been throughout the rest (and much more serious) part of this transaction! Dr. Scamp does indeed come across as an entitled and uncaring man, and the cancellation of this surgery has indeed been a blessing.response / report this review -

Having had three previous superb and successful surgeries in Hong Kong and Bangkok, I was expecting the $210 consultation for 15 mins to be highly professional and pleasant.
Instead Dr.Scamp was unfriendly, rude and judgementally racially profiled my part Indian heritage, with huge generalisations of Indian people using negative connotations (within the first 5 minutes of sitting down) having not known anything about me beforehand. The experience was appalling to say the least.
I honestly think it would be best for Mr.Scamp to take his arrogant, entitled, baby boomer judgment elsewhere and retire.

Very wonderful experience, from the moment I enquired. His lovely reception staff made the process so easy and comfortable. I was very impressed with Dr Scamp's experience and the amount of information I was given regarding the procedure I was after. He is with you through the entire thing. I will definitely be recommending him to anyone after plastic surgery.

I had breast reduction surgery with Dr Scamp and i am extremely happy with my results! Dr Scamp, Susan and Heather were so welcoming, professional, reassuring and helpful at my consultation and even after my procedure answering all my questions and concerns. I had worries while considering this surgery that i would be unhappy with my results and care but Dr Scamp and the team exceeded my expectations. I am grateful for this life changing experience and i definitely recommend Dr Scamp.
