Every time I have visited I have enjoyed myself immensely. Jolly good! P.S. The adjoining shop's a stunner too. And, the architecture - exterior mostly I expect you would say - is outstanding.
What a beautiful gallery. The building is also amazing. We love the exposition and it is free. A must go when visiting Cairns
Charming old building making good use of exhibition space. Front of house staff very helpful.
Amazing gallery for small town. The artwork is unique and worth seeing it, mainly Australian with overseas inspirations. Very interesting life stories of the artist. It has also a very interesting gallery shop.
Guess indigenous art is not for all. Anyone who has read a bit of history will know white people were also put in chains and treated poorly. Chains were not uncommon in what was after all a penal colony. Indigenous Australians often did stuff that people in England were hung for. I suggest you read Marcus Clarke's for the term of his natural life. The exhibition gives a bit of a one sided racist view. Many Australian's were treated poorly. it was an ugly time. One we need to put behind us. A depressing exhibition which leaves a lasting negative opinion of Cairns.
With ever changing exhibitions, and a great little Gallery Shop, this is a worthy Regional Gallery- made even better when its a wet day outside. The local council has plans for expansion to the old Courthouse building next door, and it will certainly be up with the best Galleries across Australia, after expansion.
Lovely little gallery. Always a nice mix of media and culture in their exhibits. I go once a month
The store is quite good, specially if you are looking for gifts to take overseas or for special occasions.
Love all artworks, activities and the building. Cool and beautiful place.
