  Das Volkstheater wurde 1889 als „bürgerliches Gegenstück“ zum heutigen Burgtheater eröffnet. Heute gehört es mit 970 Sitzplätzen zu den größten Theaterhäusern im deutschsprachigen Raum.

  The Volkstheater opened in 1889 as a “civic counterpart” to the present-day Burgtheater. Nowadays, the repertoire includes Austrian as well as German and international classics, comedies or musicals.
