Our saga began on October 11, 2017 and we haven't even stayed at The Villa. It went downhill very quickly after we made the reservation and then discovered that the accommodations would not be to our liking. We made the reservation for a 2 week stay in June, 2018 and cancelled it within about 10 minutes of making it. However, the Villa had already taken the ENTIRE AMOUNT ($2300.00) out of our account. They are only supposed to charge 10% until 2 weeks prior to your arrival then they charge the remainder. Only after I requested a confirmation that the room had been cancelled, they emailed me and told me that the reservation had been cancelled and that they would refund my money. I waited several days for the money to show back up in my checking account but it never did. So I emailed them again. I had to ask for a reply to that email also. When they did respond, they said the refund could take 4-6 weeks. The person I was dealing with at this time was named Marco Strasser. I emailed several times requesting an update but never got a response. About a month has passed by this time and I was becoming frantic so I emailed the Austria Tourism Department and they said they forwarded my complaint to several other places (including the Villa) and that I should expect a refund in a few days. I did get a response from the Villa, this time from a lady named Marianne Dorfer. She was very apologetic. I informed her that I had gone to my bank to file a dispute in order to get my refund. All of her emails after that indicated that she thought the bank would refund my money and the Villa would just keep the $2300.00 they had gotten from me. It is now 7 weeks and I still haven't gotten my refund from the Villa and fully do not expect to. It has been a nightmare.

Original locations of The Von Trapp family. Beautiful but its only a hotel and not a tourist site.

What better place to stay in Salzburg than the original Trapp Villa, now a small hotel on the outskirts of town. We stayed in Maria's Room - everything my wife could have wished for. Delightful!

Is one of those "Been there done that"
Is truly a beautiful place; however,
for the price you can find a better place in city center.
The internet did not work once. Bed and pillows were not comfortable.
The TV and the heater were not working one of the night and there is nobody around available after 7:00 pm in case you need help.
The water would go from hot to cold while taking a shower.
Overall, do NOT recommend this place.

booked a couple of rooms at Villa Trap for a weekend trip with a group of friends. I booked the rooms under my name, but as the trip got closer, I found out I wouldn't be able to go anymore. I canceled my reservations before the non-refundable dates and my friend rebooked under her name. I was supposed to receive a refund after my cancelation but I still do not have it. I emailed Villa Trap, who's response was unhelpful and didn't acknowledge that they owed me my refund. I called, and found out that the refund takes 6-8 weeks. They were very nice on the phone and I patiently waited to receive my refund during that time. It has now been 10 weeks and I still have not received my refund. I emailed Villa Trapp again (calling is hard because I would be making an international call) and heard nothing back.I have sent them all the documentation, including the card charge, my cancellation confirmation, a copy of their cancellation policy, and the dates so that they know for sure I canceled in the appropriate amount of time to receive a refund.

Next I will be calling my bank to help me fight this. Do not trust villa trapp to give you your money back. Learn from my mistakes and don't book unless you're 110% sure you will be staying here.

We were interested to maybe book for our next trip, went there and met with the most unfriendly reception and people I have ever met in any hotel in the whole world !

Besides being kind of complicated to get to, you go under the bahn tracks and then turn right, it was gorgeous. There are shared bathrooms and the rooms are very old. I enjoyed my stay here. No free breakfast. However it was definitely worth the culture to stay here!

Our host was very kind and accommodating and spoke excellent English. The room we stayed in, the Sound of Music Suite was large and beautiful.

The rooms are not worth the price but were reasonably comfortable.

Very nice hotel, expensive breakfast but quite good. Rooms are comfortable and well decorated but a bit small. Overall quite a nice place to stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Trapped. The staff was spectacular and personable, and gave us recommendations for a restaurant that was open on a Sunday evening. She also called and made the reservation for us. Conveniently, there was availability to upgrade to suites and she did that for us as well. Some of the rooms are shared bathrooms so the upgrade was a God send. The house is very cozy and quaint and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Nice staff and decor however the hotel appears to be trading off its heritage and not paying enough attention to areas where it's required such as maintenance of the grounds, info on its heritage and facilities. This destination has the potential to be a wondrous place, with some simple adjustments, such as a better kept garden, with some garden games, better internet, a hot breakfast and info on the Von Trapp family (I had to research on the Internet!).

By all means, go for the novelty but don't expect too much else.
