Great coffee and cakes, simple, but delicious, breakfast menu. Awesome location, as it‘s situated right across the Hofburg Palace, so a great view is included.

Very busy when we arrived. But pleasant! Thankful they served tap water. I was tired of buying bottled spring water.

One of my most pleasent experiences in Vienna, just enjoying cheese and bread with a tall, cold drink watching the horses and carriages stream past in the sunshine. It was such a lovely afternoon and I got the distinct sense that this same scene had been replaying over and over for hundreds of years. I will always treasure that memory.

Beautiful location, especially on the patio! We were served coffee on a silver platter by gentlemen in tuxedos. Absolutely a must-see in Wien.

A tourist hotspot, a fake created in the 1990's, almost hundred years after the original café was closed. I like fakes, but this place is little more than an urban skiing hut with Klimt reproductions around a WC. Still at times when things are a bit quieter one can probably enjoy a cup of coffee here.
Today the café is frequently used for press conferences as an alternative to café Landtmann.
The original café Griensteidl was home to Young Vienna, a circle of artists from the likes of Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arthur Schnitzler, Arnold Schoenberg, Hermann Bahr, Friedrich Eckstein, Rudolf Steiner, Hugo Wolf, Stefan Zweig and so on. When the café was demolished in 1897 they all moved to Café Central accross the street.

The cakes are great! Highly recommended! Especially if you want a dessert after dinner, it's the best hour because there's almost no one, so it's very calm and relaxing.

Recommended for the food quality and the good service.
The atmosphere is OK, being a Viennese café that serves both dishes and snacks.
    Reasonable to medium-high prices.
