Great bar in a great city. Very much has an American prohibition/speakeasy feel. Good old fashioned. Allows smoking which is good for the speakeasy feel but I’m not a smoker so -1 Star. Sorry guys. You definitely cannot come in just for the photo opp. Sit and relax. Enjoy the cocktail and the experience.

Very cool architecturally. The prices are jacked up since it is one of the famous works of the modernist era. However, the space is really cool. They do allow smokers in the small room, so if you aren't a fan, stay away.

Stop in here for a cocktail and read the history of the bar in their menu book. The place is definitely influential in Vienna and a historical site.

Cool bartenders. Architectural icon. Great style. Great atmosphere. Spend some time here and absorb the atmosphere instead of just walking in and taking a picture.

Go for the drink, not to take a quick look at the world famous architecture of Adolf Loos. They throw you out. With this attitude towards tourists they shame the whole of Vienna. Auf wiedersehen, goodbye.

Very small and limited seating gives it a bit of a speakeasy feel. Bartenders were extremely professional and it was fascinating to watch them make a cocktail.

This place is bananas. Tiny and always crowded. If you're okay with cigarette smoke it's a fun place to have an old fashioned and chat with random strangers. Drinks are 🔥 too

Amazing place to have a drink, or two. Great architecture, highly professional bar tenders, and delicious drinks. The price, of course, is accordingly

I actually almost didn't go here because of the "American" in the name -- I was expecting that to mean the cheesy, Hooters-esque, poor taste kind of bar that are more typically associated with American culture (I grew up in the US). Boy, was I wrong -- when these guys say "American," they mean the real classic American of the Art Deco era. I'm really so glad my local friends insisted and took me here, because it is now my favorite bar in Vienna. By the second time I was there, the staff remembered my drink, even though I was only there very briefly the first time. By the third time, they insisted I take a table and even kicked out a couple that grabbed the table they said was reserved for me and my two friends (it's a pretty tight space). Maybe my opinion is skewed, but, really, just great service, wonderful environment, great mixologists!
