We're certainly no experts on family hotels, this was our first stay in such an establishment with our kids (1 and 4 yrs old). Yet we are pretty sure that the stay at the Rosenegg could have been better and that the first impression, the facade and the price level lets you expect more than is actually delivered. The main reasons:
Language: you never know which language staff members will understand. I don't mind speaking English when German is not understood, but even English does not get you very far consistently; the safest option would be to be an Italian guest, as this is the prevailing language here. Let us call it the Fawlty Towers factor, it is extremely irritating.
Not that competent service: we booked an extra children's bed. It wasn't there. We wanted to park in the garage with our luggage box on top, which the receptionist said was fine as the garage was 2.30m high. It wasn't, it's only 2.03, which we realised when we tried to enter the garage. We needed 2 fresh garbage bags (we produce lots of diapers) and only got one. We asked if our daughter could swim with the animation girl who said, sure, fine, she'd be in the pool anyway in the afternoon to swim. She wasn't. The children's disco reached an ear-damaging 105db in front of the loudspeakers - unbearable and consider this: one hour of children's disco causes as much damage to the ear as 12 hours of work in a high-noise environment in which you're required to wear ear protection.
Shabby: contrary to the first Impression - the hotel seems impressive and quite freshly painted, the pool and the garden area are in good shape overall - the rooms are quite run down. We had a huge family suite with a new bath tub and kitchen, but the mattresses felt very worn, the sleeping sofa was hard as hell, the beds couldn't be moved as the carpet was (sloppily) cut around them, the ventilation was very loud, all lighting is terribly dim - good luck reading good night stories to your children. But let's not be too critical - isolation was very good and it had a nice balcony.
All in all, we wouldn't come here again. I know Austria is expensive in August, it is expensive to maintain such an estate with pool and spa area and kids club - but yet I feel the value is not exceptional here.

Great place. Good breakfast and dinner. Nice swimming pool. Minus - wifi only close to reception.

Very unique location, very friendly staff, lovely castle building, good pool facility, very reasonable price, would highly recommend, will stay there again

In basic a good hotel, nothing wrong. Excellent breakfast, dinner was so so. We had a very nice and large room in the old part of the hotel. The thing I personally didn't like it is big, it felt like a factory for tourists.
