Unfriendly and dirty place! We were robbed there! They actually billed us for extra ketchup, mayonnaise and salad without asking!

A trap, not only for tourists

For a longer time Cafe Westend has the reputation of a tourist trap. Still I was not smart enough to check the receipt when I got it. I got deceived by the friendly waiter and myself being Viennese and not a tourist. After leaving the cafe I checked the receipt, they charged me 7,70€ for a coffee and a "soda zitron". The actual price should have been 6,20€. I went back, confronted the waiter, and he said he can't imagine charging too much, he can't remember (it was 5min ago). This deceitful behavior has nothing to do with the "rough charme" of Viennese waiters, this is just trickery and stealing.

DO NOT support this behavior, DO NOT consume anything there, AND IF check the receipt immediately. The conduct of business is a shame for Viennese coffee culture.
I should have asked the name of the young blond waiter to call him out here. He basically hustled money from me, and I also had given an adequate tip.

A complete rip-off! They brought us what we thought were complimentary bretzels, peanuts and a wiener, then they charged us for them when it came to paying. We were expecting the bill to be abut 30 Euros and they charged us more than 48 Euros. Advise NOT to go there. Should be called The Worst End.

His place was awful. We did not feel welcomed, the service was barely there, they brought over a stale pretzel, ketchup, and mayo without asking if we wanted it and then charged us 2 euro for each! Not to mention my husband had food poisoning the very next morning at 3am as we were leaving for the airport, a 16 hour day of travel. It was awful. Worst experience we have had. Terrible way to end our honeymoon. I recommend going to some cafes downtown, they were wonderful.

You should not miss this well preserved, historic, classically L-shaped Viennese coffee house. Atmosphere has been somewhat ruined by a new management, and a rather rude staff. Not like the typical Viennese grumpy waiter, no, more like really plain awful. The food is OK, but slightly overpriced. They try every trick in the book to make you pay for everything and nothing. You just want to stick to your espresso and leave this otherwise wonderful interior as quick as possible.

Terrible experience. My pasta was really greasy and tasted rather awful. Putting stuff you didn't ask for in front of you and charge you a lot extra for it afterwards feels a bit like a scam. In short: Intransparent and dishonest way of doing business, and horrible food. Never again. Stay clear of this tourist trap!

This is not a place to relax and enjoy a delicious coffee, but rather a place to have a real traditional Viennese coffe house experience: rude waiters and waitresses, mediocre coffee, and a smelly space with a bit shoddy feel.

Sehr typisch, sehr traditionell. Tolles Flair, schönes Ambiente, gute Lage und gewohnt genervte Kellner.

Traditional Viennese Café with quiet atmosphere. Of course, the waiters behave in a traditional manner, so don´t expect immediate service. But that is obviously typical for a Viennese Café. So come here and enjoy it!

Once apparently a beautiful location - some details still show it. The smell from the kitchen is well in the room, the sound of old air conditioner also helps creating the atmosphere of complete decadence.
The wiener schnitzel was okayish but the accompanying potatoes simply awful (probably this was the smell). Everything, absolutely everything the waiter places on table - and you did not order - will be put on the bill - mayo, ketchup, pretzels, peanuts etc. Even the oil for the salad will be charged on top - and it can easily add altogether quite a sum. I asked for a shot of brandy at the end and it was put twice on the bill - the waiter said with a smile the single shot was too small to enjoy! I have to put a star in order to post - but it is minus a star for the place.

Beautiful classic old-style Viennese coffee house, BUT, since a few years, completely ruined by a new management. Also a very rude staff. Not like the typical Viennese grumpy Kellner (waiter), no, like really awful. The food is just OK, but overpriced. They try every trick in the book to make you pay for everything and nothing. You just want to leave as quick as possible.
