This is one of my worst experiences by far. To show the situation we were the only colored family in the whole cafe. I walked in with my family and were given uncomfortable looks at the workers who would roll their eyes at us. We sat ourselves on dirty tables where the workers would not clean up and would rather clean the tables next to us. Also, when we ordered, the waiters would whisper something under their mouth and roll their eyes at us again. If this is a tourist area where is the hospitality? Just because of the color of our skin do not think of us any less. Come to America and we'll show you real hospitality.
Nice location. Very popular. Nice dessert and drink. Good place for sitting when outside is too cold to stay.
Salzburg is a charming place. It is big enough to be called a city, yet it is small enough to be cozy and familiar. There are two things of great importance to this special city; Sound of Music filming location spots, and of course Mozart being born there. It is said that this musical genius used to frequent this cafe which is now known as Cafe Tomaselli. Imagine deciding not to go there; even if it might be a tourist trap, one still has to try what is apparently the “oldest still operated cafe” in the whole of Austria. So, we chose to sit on the balcony of this cafe which is a part of history; twice. The waiters were very friendly and we enjoyed the food, especially the sweet drinks and cakes. For me personally, the cakes were reminiscent of my trip to Lake Bled in Slovenia, where they have something very similar to this cream cake called “Kremsnita” and it is also delicious.
Mozart once sipped on something here. While that alone shoukd raise an eyebrow or two, know that this establishment does not rest on such lofty laurels. I had what might be the most heavenly cup of hot chocolate in my life. (Full disclosure: I'm not a coffee guy. At all.) If they can do this so well, and you *do* happen to be a coffee guy/gal, you pretty much need to check this place out, if only once.
Nice setting. Very popular cafe. If you're from the UK.. it's like Betty's. Servers are dressed up and interiors are traditional. Popular with tourists.
Coffee is 4/5. Better brews at your local hipster shop. As of 2017 a cup is 4 euro.
Cakes are 3/5. They are also 3 to 4 euro per slice. They bring a tray of cakes to your table that you pick and pay the waitress. We had the sponge and another cherry cake. It's nothing to shout about and I doubt I'd remember it.
Did not try the strudel here.
Not a place for foodies or if you're on a budget.
Good place to chill, soak in the atmosphere and read.
Coffee and cake was outstanding. Busy place but worth the possible wait. The history of this place and the stories that must have been told here over the past many, many years make it a must visit. Awesome decor throughout. We visited Dec 2016.
One of the best services I have ever experienced in my life. 6 different coffees and 6 meals all within 10 minutes to superb standard. Will be returning whenever I'm in Salzburg, could not have asked for a better meal.
Touristy but great for people watching. Dessert was tasty. Something worth trying when wandering around.
They had a lady bringing different cakes around but we had already ordered and weren't able to buy one but they looked good!
Very impressive inside if you like fancy wood panelling and details. Nice cakes and coffee is good
You pay for drinks/food separately from Cakes which a lady brings round on a board for you to choose from.
Prices are reasonable for a relatively upscale place
Seating outside and on 2 floors inside.
Lovely drinks service though the sweets service was a little less pleasant. Atmosphere was great for afternoon tea and the likes. Definitely quite a touristy place. Not overly pricey though.
Cafe looks nice, things you can buy here are in average quality for higher prices. We had quite a big problem with stuff working here, waiter was rude, we told him that we want to pay and he was ignoring us for 20 minutes, so we had to leave and put money on the table. Nearly didn t catch a train
Terrible service left us diastrous impression. Drink and cakes are separately charged. The servant seemed just impatient to serve us and forced each one order a drink. I took a black tea with milk. They gave us a teapot(more expensive) instead of a glass of tea and there wasn't even milk! I told one waiter passing by to give me some milk and he said I should find my waiter. Unbelievable! Cakes are just ok - I wouldn't call it delicious. In a nutshell I won't recommend it to anyone. Remember the name TOMASELLI and avoid it!
Highly recommend, as to see old fashion interior, and service. Very busy, so be prepare to wait for a table, you can have nice cake and tasty coffee, breakfast they are serving as well. Nice staff, can speak English very well.
We had two wonderful cakes, one child ice cream dessert, a wine spritzer and coffee with liquor. Total cost was €17.20, which compared to other places is quite reasonable. I was very amused by the lady with the dessert tray coming around. Then the waiter followed suit with our drink and ice cream order.
This is located around the corner from Mozarts childhood home. In the house it states that this was a places his family would frequent for market items like tea, coffee and liquor.
