I was so happy to run into this place. Amazing views from the top of the ruins. You can take a bus up and down or walk one of the ways. Great way to spend at least few hours.

The Aggstein castle is a remaining ruins of the former castle.
It was built in the twelfths century.
It was long time owned by ruthless knights, blocking the river by chains and pressing money for passing.
The cradle of todays toll systems.
The case is rather elevated: 480 meters, round 1570 ft. above sea level.

Lovely old castle near Danube river. Wonderful view over Wachau wine Valley. If you enjoy walking, leave your car on the parking near the river. It is about 40 minutes climbing through a nice forest path. The restaurant inside the castle is also a nice place for a refreshment of a meal. I can highly recommend this place!

Very beautiful castle which is worth a visit, despite the long winding way up here. The view is also great. You can see a lot o the Wachau valley from here.
