We recently had a one-week stay in a hotel type room and purchased the half-board option. Maria Alm is a picturesque Austrian alps ski town that during our September stay was perfect as a base for exploring the area. We did not participate in the hotel sponsored daily tours so cannot comment on them. I offer a mixed review below, but we loved the area and would definitely consider returning, but would plan differently.

    Pros:
    - The Hochkönig Card that the front desk gives you could support just about a full weeks worth of activities right in the immediate area! From gondola rides and alpine slides to bicycle tours, tennis, swimming, and much more, active people can have a great time with this perk!
    - The Half Board option makes life simpler, as you don't have to go find food every day, and the quality is superb. (They did seem under-staffed, and even though drawn out meals can feel like a luxury, sometimes that is not what you want, and it could take over two hours before the courses were all served. After the first dessert though you'll be hooked and have to wait until the end every night!)
    - Parking is free, and although tight, we always found a space.

    Cons:
    - There is NO mini kitchen in the room even though that is how it is listed on the RCI website. We received a notification from RCI.uk just one week before check-in where they apologized and told us that there is no kitchen. I'm not sure we would have booked this stay if we had known that information up front. One of the reasons we like time-share is having a kitchen during the week. That just makes life simpler on those days when you want to just relax, or grab something and leave early, or eat light, etc. The food at the resort is a Plus, but not even having a coffee maker or tea kettle in the room, and the only refrigerator is a mini-bar, is a huge Con.
    - Location - if it's ski season, or you primarily want a quiet week of hiking and exploring in the Maria Alm area, it's fine, but if you want to see Salzburg or Munich, Zell em See, etc., you need a car and will be putting quite a bit of time behind the wheel. (On the pro side, the roads are smooth, fantastically well marked and amazingly scenic.)

If we had booked this room as a hotel I'd call it 4 stars, but as an exchange, with no kitchen facilities at all in the room and limited resort amenities, I have to call it a 3.

Room Tip: We had an outside sitting area, which I really enjoyed.

What a wonderful place to visit in September. The activities in the area are great, and the staff was very, very helpful. They made us fill like family.

We had a delightful week at the Alpenland Sporthotel in Maria Alm. The staff were most kind and helpful and the food served was excellent. If it is possible, We would love to return sometime in the future.

Very nice hotel. Everything you would normally expect from a hotel of course. But it also has some nice extras like free bike and e-bike rental. The location is beautiful and already in a very natural area so hiking and biking can be done just up or down the road. The restaurant could have been better and I would definitely recommend eating at local restaurants as the food in the area is excellent. I visited in the summer.

They serve really delicious meals and ther rooms are very clean. Nevertheless I was disappointed as I saw how small and humble fitness and wellness areas are.

Hotel was nice, and in a good location. Staff was friendly and the room was well furnished. Had to pay for WiFi, and it was not cheap. But the cleaning staff was super, going beyond their duties to help us out.
