This hostel is DISGUSTING! The bathrooms and kitchen were absolutely horrid. None of the bathroom doors locked, our shower didn’t drain and everything was rusty. Nothing worked in the kitchen. Beds were not comfy and pillows rarely had pillow cases. The common areas are nice and staff were absolutely amazing which is too bad they had to work there!! Location was unreal perfect for going out and accessing all parts of town! Really a shame the place was so rancid.

DO NOT STAY HERE
After staying in dozens of hostels I can easily say this is the worst hostel I've stayed in. One or two staff members were OK and the horse riding tour was brilliant, but we left wanting a refund.
- Our room FLOODED with no apology or assistance from staff which damaged our and other guest’s items - No breakfast - Pool was murky and made fart sounds - Nothing in the kitchen worked - Wifi didn't work - Bathrooms stank and always wet - Lots of noise at night - Staff had no idea about tours they were meant to be selling or about navigating the city.response / report this review -

Bathrooms are really bad. The 12 people room has no windows, only 1 bathroom and 4 outlets.

like the last review the staff was very friendly, but this hostel is certainly not worth the 70 pesos they charge (the most expensive hostel I have stayed at during 6 months in South America). Loud, loud, loud, loud all night long. I had a cold and decided to make it an early night, but was kept awake by constant partying and the clanging and bustle of the resteraunt next door. Also, the fan in the room had some serious rotational problems causing a jet engine whirring sound. The noise is only part of the several things that irked me during my experience at Damajuanas. I was given what they call a pull-out bed which is akin to sleeping on the floor and charged me more than people who had actual beds. They seem to have several different prices for their accomidations and there is no ryhme or reason to any of it. The pull-out bed required me to go to reception and to request that they get a mattress from the basement as the mattress and frame do not slide together under the other bed in the room. They then never brought me any bed linens, I could only choose from some dusty dog like blankets in the room to clad my bed with. Now to the next issue. I bought food to cook in their kitchen because I was trying to save a little money and to eat healthy. Well.about that. They had a bbq that evening and had comandeered the kitchen until about 1 am which left me hungry and without dinner. My last major gripe has to do with the random stragglers I found sleeping in the common area in the morning. About 10 people were sleeping on all of the couches throughout the room. I´m sure that maybe 1 or 2 of these people were paying guests and guess what? They had very similar sleeping accomodations to mine. Anyways, in conclusion, Damajuanas has a pool and not much else.

So far, the Lonely Planet South America book has been great regarding restaurants and things to do, but when it has come to hostels/accommodation, it's been below average, and bragged about Damajuana Hostel being the bee's knees in hostel accommodation ich dont think so mate!
I don't mind roughing it, but only when I don't pay much (you cant exactly complain when you get what you pay for, basically!).
At Damajuana, I am roughing it, but at a cost! The place is massively overpriced, the rooms are way overcrowded, and the kitchen is pretty poorly equipped.
There are a couple of rooms (which are 12 and 8 persons) that sit at the front of the hostel, which is also the main strip for Mendoza (lots of bars/restaurants open til late).
Even during the week, people are out and about until gone 4am, so it's really loud.
I'm a big party person, and can take a fair bit of noise, but most of the activities and tours to do in Mendoza involve you having to be up and ready for about 8am, and for most, you're out all day until 5/6pm, so you might want to chill out, have a few beers, and crash out by midnight, but you won't get any peace for all the noise out on the street!
Even if you end up at the back of the hostel, there is also 2x 8 bed dorm rooms, but really it's just one big room of 16 beds, because there's only half a wall dividing you all. If anything, the wall makes it worse, because it's only another wall for everything to echo off and around. My point being, is you are essentially staying in a room with not 8, but 16 people
Bathrooms are good in some rooms, rubbish in others. It's a bit hit and miss really.
On the flip side to all my complaining, the staff are absolute gold. I've pretty much bumped into them all, and spoken even if just a little (some more than others), from maids to the guys running it, and they're all very welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful with whatever you might want.
The chill out lounge area is really nice (not flea ridden?), and the back garden is really well kept and nice (with swimming pool, also really clean). The internet reaches your bedroom (if you have a laptop) which is good too.
The rooms are cleaned everyday, as is the whole building, so it's well looked after, and i don't have any issues with the hygiene of the place (and I can be quite fussy). You'll regularly catch them moping/cleaning floors. I've read a couple of peoples reviews on there being bed bugs, but you can't avoid bed bugs ALL the time when travelling (get real!), and i've seen them fumigate 2 rooms as a precaution (not because anybody has complained about them) so I reckon they're on top of that.
Breakfast isn't bad; bowl of cereal, all the coffee/tea you want, fruit (usually either an apple of orange), & 3 slices of toast.
So yeah, that's my opinion in as much detail as I can think off of the top of my head. I've just recently stayed there too, so it's an up to date opinion :)
There are several other hostels on the same street (and around Mendoza), all of them look just as good if not better (a couple recommended by other backpackers), but are cheaper, so perhaps look into them first. If the price was cheaper (currently 75pesos (about$18/£12) per person, per night w/breakfast, and 65pesos (about $15/£10) per person, per night w/out breakfast), I'd consider again, as it really isn't THAT bad. but considering you can do better literally doors down, for much cheaper? Begins to put you off!

friendly staff and nice pool but sofas full of fleas, filthy bathrooms, overcrowded dorms. parties. EVERY night. you will not sleep at all in this noisy hostel.
