Nor Varagavank is a XIII century monastic complex, an exceptional example of medieval Armenian architecture. It was established in a memory of Varagavank monastery (located in Western Armenia now occupied by Turkey), which was destroyed during Mongol invasion. On the territory of the monastery you'll find uniquely styled cross-stones with elaborate ornamentation and numerous inscriptions. The monastery is only partially restored. On the side-note, if you are planing to travel to it from Yerevan, do not take the road through Berd (H36), which Google Maps might suggest, instead take the longer road (M4 from Ijevan and then H37 toward Vazashen, Paravakar and eventually Varagavan). The road through Berd is shorter (thats why Google suggests it), but its in a catastrophic condition and you will spend more time fighting it than if you take the longer route, which has a decent asphalt. It will take you approximately 2,5 hours to reach it from Yerevan.
