Here one can feel so much emotions. The monastery is dating back to the 13th century and Akhuryan river is running next to it. .

This is fantastic monasterial complex, not far from Gyumri, second city in Armenia. Architecture is incredible, this is for sure must see place. Monastery is crowded more or less because people from Gyumri with big groups are very often coming here, even just for picnic.

The Marmashen Monastic Complex is definitely the most visited tourist attraction in the Gyumri vicinity. It is located on a plateau overlooking the left bank of the Akhurian River, 14km northwest of Gyumri. The ground around the monastery is a popular picnic place and many Armenians come here to have barbecues (khorovats), especially during the weekends. The pink stones which contrast nicely with the landscape and the vicinity of the Akhurian River make this spot very picturesque.

Magnificent compound of three churches made from red tufa stone with surrounding ruins on the banks of river Akhourian with pastoral bucolic scenary.

    An impressive church.
Visiting this place is interesting and rewarding. The Armenian people should visit this place because here rests one of the most brilliant Armenian commanders, Vahram Pahlavuni.
