Free and fantastic views. Not too hard to get to either. Dig the atmosphere because people really live in there. We actually drove up there, and it took us a bit to wrap around the town. I'm guessing that the walk up would be pretty with lots of winding old streets and the like. Definitely some tourists at the top, but it wasn't too crazy

Beautiful old castle in a huge mountain with wonderful landscape. Around the castle there are houses where people lives nowadays too, it's interesting. Take a long walk in the castle area, shoots some extra wonderful pics, eats some tradicional foods and enjoy the harmony in an old life. Than explore Berat and the thousand windows.

Biggest castle in Albania which is still hosting houses and used for living.
Many archeological places, mosques and churches. It has great panoramic view of the city and the whole area nearby.
A place you must visit in case traveling to Albania.

A must see if visiting Albania. This castle is on the back of the 10 lek coin. Dates back to 200b.c. & was a key military point in defending against many historical Invaders (Byzantine, ottoman, Italian, Nazi Germany) as it is atop a peak. So it currently provides an unparalleled 360 degree view for tourism. There is also a museum/ very old Orthodox Christian Church .

It has a wonderful view and you can also buy some cute souveniers to always remember your visit. As a visitor here, I could say that a beautiful place always hides a wonderful story. That's why I like this place so much. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially to tourists!

Incredible castle and fascinating history also. We met with a local tour guide who explained the rich history. We were amazed to find people live in the castle to this day. Entrance is reasonable price of 100LEK

It's a fantastic place, ancient living city inside and may ruins to be seen, specially the walls around the city that once formed the fortress and protected the citadel inside. From the top you have good view of old and new city of Berat. The view of the river, the ancient bridge, the valley and mountains beyond.

Just amazing! I visited Berat in the end September so it was quite and not a lot of people . The castle it’s perfect kept and beautiful.
Although I would prefer there was not hotels and cafes inside !

A small tip . On the behind of the castle where the sculpture is , have a very good look on the mountain ahead. You’ll realize that it was something written there with big letters .

One of the best places we have been to in Albania. It's not super crowded like the coast and locals still live in the castle.

The Museum Onufri was terrific and to see people still living in the castle walls otherwise does not compare to the other large castles in Albania. No information leaflets or history re parts of the castle signposted. You have to google everything

The castle of Berat is not just an old fortress, but a preserved medieval city. Walking through its narrow streets is like a time machine. It's definitely worth visiting while in Albania.

The fact that the castle is still inhabited gives it's own charm to it, and the views are great. It's a big castle to wonder around and probably one of the most interesting we saw in Albania. The entry is paid (200 lek per person when we visited)
