Graduate from SJSM 2017'. Affordable tuition and good environment to study pre-clinical years. Quality clinical rotations are rare but available if you choose to look for them and are willing to put in the hard work necessary to get the most out of your medical education. You will have to look in advance and be waitlisted to get these rotations. If you choose light easy rotations, which almost all of them are through the school, then you will likely make it through to the end still not knowing anything. The majority of students choose this path. Avoid Jackson Park Hospital at all costs. Staff and professors try to be very helpful. Unfortunately, most of the professors have not actually written the USMLE, which renders them almost completely useless when seeking counsel on board exam info and preparation techniques. They may think they know, but they do not :( It is not the same as any other exam, except maybe the MCAT. The school provides the Kaplan Qbank when American students are provided with the Uworld QBank which is more expensive. Needless to say this is doing great harm to the students as Uworld is the only tool necessary for high board scores. Time spent on Kaplan is time wasted. Board exams scores are the most important thing for attaining a residency no matter what medical school you choose. Do not rely on the curriculum to prepare you for these, you must put in many months/years by yourself to achieve high scores on these. Luckily a few rounds through Uworld alone allowed me to score much higher than the American students. Family medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine residencies are easily attainable through this school if you pass all three board exams on your first try and if you are an American or green card holder. Although attainable through this school, more competitive specialties are very difficult to get interviews in with only a couple students matching into them every year. This is mainly an issue with students not working hard enough and not necessarily an issue with the school itself. There does seem to be a lack of competitiveness with the students. Not sure why, the residency match is the most brutal and unforgiving competition in the world. I was able to attain very high scores on all of the board exams and attained interviews in both Neurosurgery and Anesthesiology. I matched into my first choice (Anesthesiology - Chicago) on my first try. Can be done but it is few and far between. 20-30% of your starting class will eventually match which makes this path VERY RISKY. Great opportunity if you work hard and stay focused. I also recommend if you do not have the credentials to apply to an American medical school, then you should think twice about medical school anywhere in the Caribbean. Especially if you require loans. Overall good experience for me.

The Faculty cares deeply for the success of their students. They guided me every step of the way from Step 1, Step 2 Cs, step 2 Ck , and getting all my paperwork in order for graduation and interview tips. SJSM was the best choice for me. In 4 yrs I finished Med School and matched. Thank you SJSM staff and faculty you helping make my dreams come true.

My experience with SJSM has been very pleasant. The professors give you the resources you need to succeed in their classes and once you are off the island, you utilize your time to study for board exams and clinical rotations. Ultimately, I like to think of SJSM as a ticket to becoming a doctor. No, they won't give you the frills and hand holding a lot of other schools do but personally, I don't need it. Being self-sufficient and a self-starter are important aspects to becoming a successful doctor. Your time at SJSM is what you make of it. Of course, administration is always readily available to answer any of my questions and are extremely helpful when it comes to questions about core and elective rotations. I have no complaints (besides wishing they had better financial aid) about SJSM because they provide exactly what they say they will and the rest is up to me.

SJSM provides all the necessary support and opportunities to fulfill a dream of becoming a doctor. It requires much hard work and planning that will result in an MD in the end.

I had a great overall experience at this school. The professors and deans are all very helpful. It is also interesting to live on an island for 16 months, but also something that takes a little adjusting. The administrative staff is great and very understanding. The school is accredited and affordable which is a plus. I would recommend this school if you are willing to study hard and be patient with the process.

My child is attending St. James , the school is serious in education and management. Specially, the active support from the school during the hurricane Irma was very helpful.
