A look back in time!
Good morning friends! We apologize for the delay in response. We have been diligently working on our property and with the insurance adjusters. We do not have a date as of yet.
Update #3 - October 10th, the first building supplies arrived. Progress is being made, but it is still too soon to estimate our reopening. We are well, busy and working hard on our hotel and within our community. Schools have reopened, a dozen or so local restaurants have opened...but we still have some work to do. For reservation changes and inquiries please contact flemingw@anguillanet.com.
October 2, 2017 – Update #2 (revised)
The Anguilla Great House clean up and rebuilding is underway.
Hurricane Irma hit the south side of Anguilla hard. The winds took nearly all of our rooftops and some of our buildings suffered structural damage, but the rebuilding is already underway, the seas have cleared and are back to their blue, and the sand is returning.
...Our engineers are focused on restructuring the rooftops, now with new support systems that extend in front of each porch between the rooms. This configuration brings greater strength to our roofs making them better able to withstand hurricane winds like those of Irma.
The interiors have been swept out and damage is under repair. Full assessment is still underway.
The kitchen and bar of the poolside restaurant is intact, but the roof was taken. Engineers are determining how best to rebuild it so that the structure is more secure and able to better weather storms.
Coconuts suffered some damage but is open for lunch every day.
The Anguilla Great House landscape was stripped of nearly every tree, but those who know AGH know that we always have pots of coconuts growing alongside the hotel, so pots have already been planted and the island is green and growing fast.
The front office suffered tremendous damage, the store was leveled and the front wall was taken, but it was time for us to update it anyway, so that is what we are planning. Our staff is currently set up in the Western building and the office has reopened to handle the business of rebuilding, rebooking and refunding as needed.
It is too early to give dates as to when we will be able to accept guests again, early estimates include partial reopening by December with full restoration in time for Moonsplash in March. Much of this is dependent upon our ability to obtain materials for construction. However, we are working diligently to ensure that if we are not quite ready when transportation returns tourism to the island, we will not be far behind.
All of our staff is fine. Some are back at work, everyone is taken care of, no one is homeless.
The island is returning to normalcy, with restaurants and businesses reopening every week. We hoped to have a more definitive report with comprehensive dates, etc. but due to the devastation of neighboring ports, we are in need of equipment and materials that could take longer than expected to procure.
More soon!

As you are aware, the island of Anguilla has suffered damage by Hurricane Irma. In her aftermath, those of us on the island and overseas have been working to respond to the needs of our island community first to assist with the clean up to begin the rebuilding process.
We are now in a better position to turn some of our attention towards The Great House so that we can assess the extent of the damage to our property. We will be providing further informat...ion on the island, our progress in the community, The Great House’s progress and goals shortly.
We will also provide information where funds and other contributions can be made to aid with the rebuilding process. Our aim is to restore our resort to a property that can provide exceptional service to our guests.
We have received many phone calls, emails and messages after hurricane Irma. We thank everyone for your continued support, we are doing our best to systematically answer all questions and queries as best we can, and for those of you looking for the best way to help, we will be giving you that information tomorrow.
Thank you very much for your continued support and prayers.

Dear friends,
Yesterday, the last of Anguilla’s visiting guests were evacuated from Anguilla and the British military arrived to assist in Anguilla’s return to normalcy.
As part of the first phase of this assistance, basic infrastructure including utilities, hospitals, grocery, gas and banks will be restored. The Anguillian Government, supported fully by the British Government, understand the expediency necessary in this first phase of recovery and we are confident that this... will be carried out swiftly.
The Anguilla Great House suffered some structural damage and will begin repairs once we can receive material on island.
We have received many emails regarding current and future reservations. Once the infrastructure of the island is restored we will begin to attend to all of the various queries, from vacation postponements and confirmation to any necessary refunds.
We have been completely humbled and are so very grateful and overwhelmed by everyone’s desire to help, and we will offer updates on that shortly as well.
Unfortunately, the monumental task of restoring the island back to its base line is all-consuming.
We will be emailing updates once progress begins. Sign on to our website if you are interested in receiving them, or stay tuned to our Facebook and website.
Thank you, again, for your well wishes and patience.
