What can I say about this amazing stay? From the moment I first expressed interest in booking this space to checking in and out, the entire experience was amazing! Sonja and I kept in constant communication even before I booked the space. When I arrived, the room was clean and spacious. Sonja thought of everything, from plates to pots and pans, even ear plugs. She took me on several tours around the island and recommended different spots. The location is so different from the typical tourist area, which I loved. You need a vehicle to truly experience Antigua, and Sonja allows you to rent one of four Jeeps, which I highly recommended you do. If I needed a cab, Sonja called one for me. If I needed something she took care of it right away. Sonja was sweet and attentive. I will definitely book again!
I really enjoyed my stay at the pinkshack, the grounds were beautiful ❤️ And The studio was nice and clean. When we got to the pinkshack there was a welcome pack in the refrigerator. Sonja was nice enough to give us a tour of the village also taking us to all the beaches there which by the way were amazing! Sonja was a great host and I will stay there again.
Great Host !
So Great place !!
We stayed one week in one of the super Sonja's cottage.
Cottage in the fantastic Sonja's garden.
The beaches around are fabulous, this is a really good spot on the island.
We greatly recommend this place !
STAY HERE if you want the INSIDE TRACK to Antigua - all inclusive or 5* cannot compete.
This could truly be Antigua‘s best kept secret! To experience the island from the point of view of someone that has fallen in love with it, then a stay at the Pinkshack with the brilliant Sonja is highly recommended. A perfect, tiny house, cleverly designed with bags of room which easily felt like home for 3 weeks.
And an unforgettable host who welcomes you like a long lost friend, organising airport transfers, provides personal tours of best beaches and restaurants. The island, it’s friendly people and beautiful scenery have captured my heart - I will be back. Pink is the new black !
The cottages at Pinkshack were perfect for my stay in Antigua. Amazing hospitality, good location just a short walk from some beautiful, very quiet and authentic beaches, away from the commercial tourism in a more peaceful corner of the island.
Sonja is very warm, relaxed and welcoming and helps you get settled in quickly. The cottage was incredibly clean, well appointed and a little Caribbean oasis.
My time at Sonja's was a real delight. Sonja is a wonderful host and makes your time on Antigua interesting, comfortable and worry-free. From arranging affordable transportation (airport pick-up/drop-off AND jeep rentals), to personal tours of the best nearby beaches & restaurants, and making sure you're settled in with any and all amenities you might need, including a wonderful welcome package. The cottages are clean and quiet, offering peace and privacy at any time ~ while the garden is lush with beautiful greenery, flowers and fruits, as well as friendly adorable cats and pups. I could go on and on about the Pinkshack property and my time on Antigua. My trip was fantastic, the island and people are friendly and welcoming, and although I wasn't able to fit in everything I had hoped to do on vacation, I left wanting to come back soon and already have the perfect place picked out.
A pretty and very comfortable cottage in a beautiful tropical garden. Sonja is a v accommodating host who has equipped the cottages with everything you need. She gave us a nice welcome package of snacks and drinks as well as a guided tour of places in the area we would likely want to visit. Her 13 fluffies were well behaved and fun to play with.We had a v relaxing week on the beaches and visiting the sights in St. Johns. Nearby, the Pondview bar and grill was a fun place to dine with the locals – good food and cheap. Generally, we found this part of the island cheaper than the south around English Harbor. Best beaches are Deep Bay, Hawksbill (both nearby) and Fort beach (other side of St. Johns).
I spent a week at Sonja's Pinkshack Cottages last December (2016) and it was the best thing that could happen to me after a stressful year in the 'Western World'. The cottages are very clean, as a welcome gift you can find a basket with goodies/snacks and something to drink in the fridge. Sonja is doing everything possible to make your stay as pleasant as possible, she will help you finding activities or places to go, book events for you, and she even takes time off to drive you around for a couple of hours to give you a tour, to show you beaches and to provide you with tips for things to do. The closest beach is a 10 minute foot walk away, her houses are in an area off the main road and thus wonderfully quiet, apart from the usual Caribbean night concert by frogs, cicadas, and the odd barking dog in the neighbourhood. Sonja's cats are well behaved, they are not allowed inside the cottages, but they love to hang out with you on the porch if you like their company (if you don't they'll get the message too). Her lovely bunch of lively little doggies is also well-behaving and not allowed around your cottage. If you decide you want to hang out with them, they will compete for your love and attention. In a nutshell, I had such a great time, this is the perfect place to just chill out, relax, and recharge your batteries. I am actually going back this winter and can't wait to fall asleep to the cicada night concerts.
Best host ever
Where do I start. The pink Shack is something very special. This is my third visit here. I loved everything about it. The host Sonia went out of her way to ensure everything was just perfect. Organising for me to be collected from the airport with a stop off at the supermarket to pick up essential supplies. Providing me with a local mobile phone. A lovely welcome pack awaited me in the shack.
The personal tour Sonia provides of the local beaches and landmarks is brilliant.
The shack was exactly as advertised.
Sonia has created something so special. The beautiful gardens and attention to detail within the cottages.
If you want to get away for a relaxing holiday I would highly recommend this accommodation.
I have already booked my next trip later this year and can't wait. I feel so calm and relaxed as soon as I arrive in Five Islands . Thank you for making my holiday so special.
What an amazing place to stay during your time in Antigua. You are made so very welcome by the kind lady Sonja :). She is there on hand if you need help with anything. All the huts are modern and idyllic. You get the real feel of Antigua at Sonjas with all the modern comforts at home. Close to three beaches. Bus route at top of the road. A solo backpacker, a couple or a family Sonja can cater for all. A true delight and lots of special and fun memories made. Thank you Sonja! :)
Just bad.
I would like to start this review by thanking Sonja, the best host ever.
the pinkshak is a small cottage surrounded by lush Caribbean, extremely nice and clean. To move i absolutly raccomend to renting a car, to be able to enjoy the many beaches of Antigua.
The first day Sonja will make a tour of the nearby beaches and place Recommended in Saint Johns, the rest of the days will recommend restaurants and wonderful places in which to spend your days (I recommend the Catamaran ride).
Many thanks again to Sonja for a nice stay.
We had an amazing week while staying at Pinkshack Cottages on Five Islands! Sonja was a great host, she was super friendly and knowledgeable. Sonja suggested using a car hire to pick us up from the airport and bring us to the cottage (which she arranged for us before our arrival), and we are very happy we did so, as it was a little confusing never having been to Antigua and it gave us a chance to acclimate to driving on the opposite side of the road! On our way to the cottage the car hire brought us to a small grocery store to get some food for the week, it was nice to get that out of the way so we could dive right in to enjoying the island. Sonja also arranged for a car rental to be delivered to the cottage, which we were able to return to the airport on our day of departure. Sonja also provided us with a cell phone for our visit and it came in handy more than a few times! Sonja provides all of her Pinkshackers with a complimentary tour of the Five Islands beaches, St. Johns and Dickinson Bay, we decided to not do the tour on our first day as we wanted to go out exploring ourselves, but after getting a little lost Sonja was gracious enough to show us around with another group of Pinkshackers on the morning of our second day. The tour is extremely informative and helpful, Sonja is very knowledgeable about Antigua’s history and knows all the secret entrances to some of the best beaches on Five Islands. We were interested in experiencing Antiguan culture and Sonja suggested we attend a BBQ down in the Village of Five Islands and also the small “bar” there, both were fun experiences. We were also interested in doing some snorkeling tours, and after looking through the many informational booklets Sonja had available in the cottage we decided on Eli’s Extreme Tour and the Creole Cruise. Sonja offered to make all of the phone calls and booked both tours for us, she even went out of her way to drop us off at one of the pick up locations. Sonja was extremely laid back and really wanted us to fully enjoy our visit. There are four cottages on Sonja’s property, but because of the beautiful gardens each cottage has its own privacy. Sonja made our trip so much more relaxing by offering to take care of all of the details with the rental car and tours. Thank you so much Sonja! We hope to visit again!
We chose the PinkShack because we wanted an authentic local, cultural, community experience in Antigua. We truly wanted to experience Antigua in it's fullest and you really need a place like the PinkShacks in order to feel like you have arrived :)
Our stay at the PinkShacks went above our expectations. Honestly, the moment we arrived we were all smiles and really surprised at how fantastic the PinkShacks were in person and how friendly and helpful our host Sonja was.
The PinkShacks are a beautiful set of four pink cottages located in the relaxing Five Islands area of Antigua. Much to our surprise it only takes minutes on foot, by bike or by car to any of the amazing beaches on Five Islands. Yepton beach is definitely our fave on the Five Islands.
You could not have asked for a better host than Sonja! She is extremely welcoming, exceptionally helpful, and she knows Antigua better than most as she was formerly a tour guide there.
Speaking of tours - Sonja included a fantastic tour of Antigua as part of our stay. The tour highlighted a short history of Antigua, some great site-seeing, basic cultural background, stops at notable sites, and drinks at the Beach Limerz Restaurant right on gorgeous Fort James beach next to Fort James. This tour really helped us get our bearings and gave us the information we needed to start our holiday on Antigua. Sonja is really helpful!
The PinkShack cottages are very cute, comfortable, well-maintained, safe, and ready for any kind of stay. The property was full of luscious tropical greenery that reminded us of a Hawaiian garden, which included various fruits growing around the property. We liked that all cottages came with a full kitchen with everything we needed as we like to cook for ourselves most of the time.
Sonja arranged our airport pickup and our rental car (car hire) with free drop-off and pick-up. We highly recommend going through Sonja for these items as they will save you time and money. In addition, we were really glad we did not hire a car right away as driving and finding your way in Antigua is quite a challenge if you have not been there before. After three days of getting oriented Sonja had our car delivered right to our door-step.
Overall - we were impressed and the service was fantastic!
THANK YOU SONJA!
** We Loved our stay at the PinkShacks! **

TIPS
-------
- Renting (hiring) a car is cheaper than taking a taxi.
- Sonja can arrange your pick-up and initial grocery shop for you.
- Sonja can arrange a car rental (car hire) for you at a better rate.
- Bring bug spray (high % deet).
- Bring lots of Sun Tan lotion - Antigua is very hot and sunny and you will go through a lot of that stuff. We used 6 spray cans and two bottles of lotion over 15 days.
- Bring an aloe-based after-sun lotion (trust us).
- Bring small favourite food items such as tea with you in a suitcase as groceries are definitely pricier.
- Buy your fruits and vegetables at the marketplace in downtown St. Johns. It is far cheaper to buy from a vendor.
- The local beer Wadadli is fantastic and well-priced.
- Great dining at Beach Limerz, BoxerShack, Sheer Rocks, and Charmichaels.
- Tipping in Antigua is 10-20% just like anywhere else. But feel free to be generous if the service is over and above as wages in Antigua are not very high.
We stayed at Pink Shack Cottage for the week of September 20-27, 2014. We had such an amazing time here in Antigua! Sonja, the owner of the property, is the nicest person and is so accommodating. She is extremely friendly and cheerful and was very welcoming to us on our arrival and throughout the entire week. She took us on a tour around to the various beaches near the cottage. She recommended various restaurants and gave wonderful directions when we needed them. The cottage itself is so cute and cozy. It is impeccably clean and tidy. The porch has seats and a table great for having coffee in the morning and listening to the birds chirp and the tropical greenery and palm trees sway with the breeze. Within 5 minutes driving time are many gorgeous beaches that are easily accessible to get to. These are: Hawksbill Beaches (4), Galley Bay, Armani Beach, Hideaway Bay, and Deep Bay. There is Fort Barrington at Deep Bay that you can hike up to for the most spectacular view of the bays and the mountains, as well as seeing the old fort and walking through it. Close by is also a great panoramic view of the Five Islands community that you can drive to most of the way and then walk the rest of the way up. The port city and capital of St. John is about 10 minutes away by car and that is where you can get groceries and supplies at the market, fresh fruits and vegetables, and where we ate most dinners. I highly recommend C&C Wine Bar, Big Banana Pizzas in Paradise, and Freds Belgium waffles and ice cream. They are all in Redcliffe Quay. I would recommend renting an SUV of some sort to have access to the other parts of the island. Some other beaches and places of interest are: Jolly Harbor area, Valley Church Beach The Nest Beach Bar, Ffrye Beach, Darkwood Beach, Turner Beach, Hermitage Beach, Shirley Heights, Devils Bridge. We had such an amazing time here and did not want to leave. I have already recommended this cottage to multiple people we met on the trip who stayed in secluded resorts. They were quite jealous when we told them about Pink Shack Cottage, the beautiful area of Five Islands, and what other parts of the island we were able to see with a rental car. I will also be recommending this cottage to my other friends where we live in Texas. We cant wait to go back and visit again! We already miss Sonja and her cute little dogs!
