Not the nicest resort I have been to, not the worst.
The food was overall pretty good. Staff friendly and helpful enough.
The activities were few and far between. The only real hard complaint I have is the air conditioning. I was unhappy the first night and just lived with it. Then I requested something be done as it was unbearable. They switched my room and the air conditioner was decent one day and then went downhill until the point of not working at all. Very disappointing as it was super hot down there in mid June.
The staff is quite pleasant, accommodating, and friendly. However, everything else about Jolly Beach leaves much to be desired. The buffet is nothing to write home about. There was no love in the food. It is unbelievable that on an island, we never ate any local food at the buffet. When I'm in the Caribbean, I expect to eat Caribbean food! Let's talk about the wifi. Wifi is only offered free of charge in the lobby area. If you want wifi in your room it is $10 per 24 hours per device! That is robbery! So my husband and I were billed separately for wifi in the room. Lastly, the entire property needs updating. Jolly Beach has not yet come into the 21st century!
Nice location (walking distance from the Marina, where we disembarked from our charter cruise) and beautiful beach.
But the rooms are nothing special, the food buffets quite lackluster yet crowded, the better restaurants are competitive for reservations as a result, and most staff is unmotivated and slow. While the entertainment was OK, the drinks similarly OK, and the free cat boats fun to use, we had more fun leaving the resort (renting scooters & outside restaurants). We tried booking a taxi to take us to a casino that never showed for 45 mins while we wait.
To top it off, we had attempted to pay upon check out at the desk, they said they had our credit card all set, and then almost 5 months later they contacted us for payment that never processed.
Expensive headache for being just OK.
If this were in the 1990s I would not engage in such a negative review. Jolly Beach then was amazing. Now it is not deserving to be promoted by travel agencies. When one works hard and save for a vacation this is not what is expected. Anyone who was at this resort between March 12 thru the 19th deserves a full refund in addition to compensation for pain and suffering. I have never experienced a more disappointing vacation. There are so many wrongs with this resort that I am becoming more angry as I type this review. First major problem. The resort is currently being renovated. No one mentioned this when I was booking my vacation. It was not noted anywhere. I can understand why this was so from a business point of view however when you are looking forward to a vacation this is certainly not what you expect. Here is a list of the wrongs I came across:
1) small rooms
2) wading in the water as the water trickles slowly down the drain while in the shower
3) my room was 3017. It needs a new toilet seat. I have 5 bathrooms in my home and none has a seat that looks like that.
4) ironing board and an iron are not standards. We had to request when needed.
5) a bar refrigerator is not the norm. Very interesting
6) narrow hallways
7) breakfast menu is the same from Monday thru Saturday. The grill on the beach leaves a lot to be desired.
8) jolly beach needs to seek the services of a consultant to help them over this hump.
9) no flat screen TVs.
Best beach on the island! The resort was nice. Opt for the superior king room, as we heard the standard rooms were small. The property is beautiful, rooms were clean, staff was friendly, food was good. Would definitely go back. If you are expecting a 5 star property, stay somewhere else. If you want a charming, beachy resort I would recommend Jolly Beach Resort.
