A worthwhile visit to the Donkey Sanctuary. The visit is free and you are greeted with brushes to go and brush the friendly donkeys. You can stay as long as you like (open 1000-1600)
There is a donation box available and if you wish you can adopt a donkey for a one off payment of 25 US dollars. They also sell Tee Shirts to try and raise money as well as second hand booksso I'd you're wondering what to do with your finished holiday books then consider dropping them off here. They gave cold drinks available to buy too. There's are toilets and handwash facilities.
Ask about the dogs and cats as they have several at any one time looking for homes. Sometimes they let you walk the puppies I believe although we didn't ask.
The sanctuary is important to the donkeys and the island, as the strays eat the farmers crops and risk being shot. At the sanctuary they are fed and watered and kept safe. There are about 150 donkeys in total in the site but not all in the public area as they just show you the friendly ones for safety reasons.
PS my favourite donkeys were Chad and July.
Come along and brush the donkeys for as long as you like! If you're lucky meet the kittens and walk the dogs :)
Really worthy cause. The staff are knowledgeable about the animals, and are keen to show you round. Brush the donkeys, and see the resident cats and dogs. Sponsor a donkey!
The people here really care about the animals. The Donkeys seem to be extremely happy and comfortable. There was a donkey that was stolen from home by some rowdy teen boys and he found his way back heehawing at the gate to be let in. There are also cats and dogs and a wonderful goat there too. When I move to Antigua I will definitely spend more time here.
Very cool place where they keep and look after donkeys that have been found around the island. This allows the farmers to have an alternative to shooting them when they get into their crop. They also have cats (lots of kittens) and dogs up for adoption. When you get there they hand out some brushes so you can go into the donkey's pen and brush them. They are all really friendly. You can also adopt a donkey for a year for a small fee. The visit is completely free otherwise.
