The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1981 to offer a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering for male students only. In 1986, a B.Sc. in electronics engineering was started for female students. Currently, the department offers two B.Sc. degree programs in electrical engineering and communication engineering. The main areas of instruction are in electronics, communications, power, control, and computers. The faculty members grew in number from 4 in 1982 to 19. This is in addition to 5 lab engineers. The department's student enrolment grew from 5 students in 1981 to approximately 200 students today.
In 1986, the department had its first batch of 4 graduates and by June 2011, the number of graduates soared to over 700 male and female graduates.
Laboratory facilities increased from 2 basic circuits and electronics labs in 1983 to 9 emphasis-oriented labs.
EE faculty members have published hundreds of scholarly papers in Digital Communications, Microelectronics, Biomedical Engineering, Image Processing, Electromagnetic Fields Applications, Control Systems, Digital Systems, Solid-State Electronics, Power Electronics, Electric Machines, etc.
