Capital Mall was opened in 1977 by The Hahn Company and acquired in 1998 by Westfield America, Inc., a precursor of the Westfield Group, which renamed it "Westfield Shoppingtown Capital", dropping the "Shoppingtown" from the name in 2005.
The mall began with four anchor department stores: The Bon Marche, J.C. Penney, Frederick and Nelson (which closed and the space became a Mervyn's in 1992)[1] and Lamont's (closed in 2000 and the space reopened as a Best Buy three years later). Upon acquisition by Westfield, it underwent a $50 million expansion and renovation, adding the "Promenade at Westfield Capital" with Borders Books and Music and Bed Bath & Beyond in August 2006. A 14-screen Century Theatres multiplex opened on May 25, 2007. Borders closed in 2011, with T.J. Maxx replacing it in October 2011.
Mervyn's closed its 99,924 sq ft (9,283.2 m2) store on December 31, 2006 and the space has since been divided into smaller sections: Forever 21 opened in August 2010, REI opened in May 2011, and Total Wine & More opened July 2013.
In October 2013, Westfield sold a controlling interest of several malls in the United States to Starwood Retail Partners, which included Capital Mall.[2]
In October 2016, Dick's Sporting Goods opened a new store in the mall.[3]
Nice shopping mall with all kind of shops like restaurants, banks, exchanges, jewellers, eye glasses, perfumes, clothing, electronics like mobiles TV and accessories etc
Very big spaces but underutilised. Games zone and section for kids. Food court. Mainly happening because of Lulu stores their. Leisurely and quite shopping experience especially groceries. Malabar gold shop also present for those looking to buy stuff peacefully.
It's a massive massive mall, lots of parking. If you like to shop in peace this is the place as it is not crowded.Huge lulu hypermarket, lots of offers always available.
Very peaceful place for shopping grand lulu's hyper market is a great place to visit here , but mall still need time to fully become icon places as still no more outlets are there.
Mall is not fully occupied. Go there for lulu supermarket and Malabar gold with hastle free parking. They are opening new shops, I guess. Lulu hypermarket is really big, you can get almost everything as expected from a supermarket. Easily accessible from Mohammad bin Zayed city.
Nice place, but still empty. Need time to get more shops opening in the mall.
You can enjoy eating at restorant on the top floor quietly.
Not crowded. Nice place for families to spend time. No film theatres. Food court, Lulu, Game zone for kids etc are there.
Still pretty empty with only 5% shops occupied
Only advantage is Lulu hypermarket is open and is mostly crowd free. So you can shop groceries practically like walk in the park
Empty mall.. feels like a zombie world! Lulu hypermarket and the few shops around it are the only useful things in it
Good mall..not much shops though.most of the stores spaces are empty. If you want to shop peacefully there is a lulu Hypermarket here.and a few food court.ect
Good mall but very few shops so lots of parking. The best mall for weekend shopping if you plan to shop at Lulu.
Silent place.. Lulu hyper market is the only one attraction here. rest of the area is vacant. good for family shopping..
It's new mall and in good location but could not see public transport to access it.
Mall has not so much crowd.
Lulu hypermarket was there and you can shop easily as there is not so much crowd.
Over all a good mall but at initial stages to get more crowd.
Nice place cool and calm
All in one roof
The only problem was to find a taxi
Most of the shops are still under-construction. A lot to do for family with kids to have good time there. Wish they can fully operate it soon.
Excellent location, big supermarket but so far no significant progress in other shopping stores. Food court also have only a few restaurants. There is a good prospect though.
A huge amusement centre called Action Zone , the kid's didn't want to leave !!
And a new restaurant called YAMU ! Highly recommended !!
Good place to bring your kids to have fun , during week days most of the games cost only 1Aed per ride
Action Zone
Lulu hypermarket there is huge and quite
If you want peacfull shopping with no stress, then this is the perfect place. I like going to Lulu here, no crowds and get served very quick. It's a real shame about the rest of the mall being empty, could be such a good place. Not really good for a Mall day out at the moment, but perfect for groceries and good deals. I really hope this Mall picks up business.
At the time of writing, this mall has the biggest Lulu Hypermarket I have ever seen. There a few other shops and several others are about to open. Grocery shopping is a nice and peaceful experience.
It's a ghost mall as most of the part is still empty with closed shutter. The only live part is the surroundings of LULU HYPERMARKET where there is some crowd and some other shops have started near to it. This HYPERMARKETS offers better offers, compared to the much more crowded Lulu HYPERMARKET located in the Mazyad Mall which is just located on the other side of the signal, for attracting more crowd.
This is a very boring place to go. Lots of parking available. No crowd at all. Sometimes its a bit scary to walk through the mall. Almost 80% of the shops are unoccupied.
Mall still looks like its in early stages. Few shops are open but largely mall is empty. Quiet place for quick lunch. Lulu is huge with almost no wait on checkout.
