I discovered Al Mahatta Museum by chance when I was looking for a typing center near Megamall in Sharjah. Who would have thought that there's a gem in the middle of residential area 😉
This place used to be an airport. In fact, it was the first airport in the entire United Arab Emirates. You'll find original aircrafts displayed inside the hangar. Some planes are still functional.
You'll find original photographs, materials and instruments used in the early stage of aviation in the UAE.
Al Mahatta Museum conducts workshop for children every Thursday at 5pm and on Saturday mornings. Entrance fee: Between AED 5-15
I forgot the fee as it's free if you're attending the workshop.
Its a nice museum here we can get information about early days aeroplane engine and history behind aeroplanes
Easy to move around.5 Aed ticket .you get glimpse of how old airport had started here
A great place to know the details of UAE aviation history and how Sharjah mahatta airport played a crucial role in British-indo flights. They even got a movie theatre to play historical videos.
It is the first airport in the UAE, built in 1932 and then turned into a museum highlighting the history of flight in the UAE and the region. The airport has been used in 1930s as a staging post for commercial flights en route from Britain to India.

A good visit for Children
Its a good place to take your Kids out. The place is small and showcase the rich history of the Sharjah Airport.
The stand out is the Hanger where there are models of real planes and is very well maintained. There should have been more to the museum than this, but none the less a good place to take your Kids
Myself was able to visit this Museum along with my family on 2nd June 2016 evening time. the displays impressed me a lot. And as I presume, the wright Brothers landed their flying machine in this part of Arabia. Those who are interested in the Aviation History must visit this Museum.
