** EXPERIENCE **
Dr. Patterson has been a trend setter with a lifelong quest to learn more effective and efficient techniques to care for his patients. He was the first surgeon in Ohio to perform a successful bone graft for a cleft palate patient and was a pioneer in the use of dental implants to replace missing teeth. With more than 30 years experience, he is considered an authority on implants and has not only placed thousands of them, but has also spoken nationally and locally sharing his techniques and knowledge with other professionals. He has practiced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery both in Chillicothe and Columbus with a special emphasis on Dental Implantology.
During the course of his career, he spent 25 years on the surgery staff at Adena Hospital, where he also served a term as chairman of the Department of Surgery. He treated many patients with face and jaw deformities, severe facial injuries, TMJ problems and various cosmetic surgeries of the face. He was also the first doctor in Ross County to be certified as an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
**ROOTS**
Roots in Southern Ohio Dr. Patterson grew up in Bainbridge, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Education.
**TRAINING**
He graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and ranked number one among 160 students in his class. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
He served in the U.S. Public Health Service in Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed a general practice internship. He went on to serve as Chief of the Commissioned Officers’ Dental Clinic at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. before completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Hospital.
**PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS**
As a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Patterson is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he served as a delegate to the Board of Directors and a consultant on dental implants. He is a member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Academy of Implant Dentists, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the Ohio Society of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association and the Ohio Dental Association.
**PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY**
He has placed a special emphasis on making a smooth transition from the patient’s regular doctor to his office, providing care as efficiently and comfortably as possible, and an effortless return to the family physician or dentist. This is accomplished through clear and thorough communication with the patient and the referring doctors.
**RESIDENT OF CHILLICOTHE**
Dr. Patterson lives on a small farm near Chillicothe with his wife, Karen, and they have four grown children. He is an avid bird hunter and breeds and trains German Shorthaired Pointers. He and his wife also enjoy riding their Tennessee Walking horses in the southern Ohio countryside.
