In 1978, Diann Safrit opened Lovin Inn Day Care as a small, in-home child care center, which developed a reputation as a high-quality center. It steadily grew and and by 1988, the site was no longer large enough to meet the new demand.
In that same year, Diann moved to a new location, the current location. With the move to North Main also came a new name: South Rowan Academy of Child Development. The name reflected a new and expanded mission.
South Rowan Academy (SRA) was to be much more than just a day care. It is an educational and developmental center. The goal was to build a foundation that would greatly increase each child's chances of being a successful student, and eventually, a successful citizen of our society.
SRA enjoyed, and still does, a reputation as one of the finest child care centers in the area. It now has a 4-star rating, one of the few child care centers with such a high rating in Rowan County. We have expanded classrooms and now have one state-funded NC Pre-K program and three Before/After school programs (two are off site).
Mike and Diann Safrit are the owners, the director is their daughter, Amanda Earnhardt. Their son, Chad Safrit, is the lead teacher of the NC Pre-K classroom.
