Nice location. Prices high, houses super old
Cool new playground. Great atmosphere!
Quiet, relaxing. Cleanest campground bathrooms I've seen! Really great play ground. Can't say a bad thing about this place!
Nice quiet campground, we we're only here for a night but we had a little trouble with our camper and a person on staff was more than happy to help us fix our problem. Very friendly and clean
Cabins are very old and smelly. Tbe shower is so tiny I could barely fit in it and the shower head was broken. The kitchen though had everything you need. It's really close to the lake.
Quite peace full. Bathrooms can be better.
It's not a bad campground but there are lots of great campgrounds in the area with similar prices.
I went there once with a bunch of friends a few years ago and the experience was ok. I tried booking again and since I forgot to email them back they will not take a reservation from me now and they hang the phone up when I try to leave a voicemail. EXTREMELY unprofessional.
No alcohol. The bathrooms were gross, hair everywhere. It was quiet and cheap.
This camp site would not allow my siblings and I to camp there because our little sister is younger than 21. Even though they have a no alcohol policy anyways. This is completely ridiculous and age-ist. (Yeah, age-ism is a thing.) There are other ways to protect yourself as a company besides simply denying service to adults because of their age. Based on everything I had read about this camp ground it sounded like the family friendly camp experience we wanted, extremely frustrated to have to re-make our plans. This policy is also not stated anywhere on their website so watch out.
FANTASTIC! The campground is family-owned and they couldn't be nicer people. The check-in process was quick and easy. The Trading Post has most of the items you'll need/want for a camping/hiking trip, so you don't have to make the 10 minute drive to Wal-Mart. And they even gave us a free movie pass to a theater in Portage. The campground is alcohol-free, so keep that in mind if you planned to enjoy some wine or beer over your campfire.
We stayed in Cabin #3, which is a two-bedroom with a kitchenette, bathroom, and sitting area. It faces the road, but it wasn't nearly as noisy as we imagined. The cabin was nice and VERY clean. It had pots, dishes, hot water, and comfy beds. We visited in mid-August when temps were 87+ degrees. Of course, we were wondering if we'd be miserable in those temps, but we were very comfortable. The hilly landscape combined with some open windows allows for some very nice breezes. In fact, the only time we felt like it was hot inside the cabin was when we cooked on the stove. Our cabin only cost $87/night for two bedrooms, so if you split that cost with another couple, a one-week stay at Nordic Pines will cost the same as one night at some of the "fancier" B&B/cabin options in the area.
Even though we didn't camp in a tent, we drove through the campgrounds. They didn't appear to have a ton of trees for privacy, but, in my experience, that is what most weekend-warrior campgrounds look like. Plus, as another reviewer noted, that's not Nordic Pines's fault, nor can they do much about it. Anyway, the campgrounds are pretty expansive so you probably get all the privacy you need just from how far you are from other campers.
Nordic Pines is literally across the street from the north entrance to Devil's Lake State Park. That means you can save a little money on the parking fees to access the park. It only takes about ten minutes to walk from the campground to the DLSP shore. And, somehow, there are NO mosquitoes anywhere out there.
Nice accommodations. Convenient location. Inexpensive. We loved it and we'll be back.
A group of friends and myself planned a biking trip from Madison to Baraboo several weeks ago. We picked the dates, asked off work, planned our route, etc.
This campsite does not allow alcohol - no problem.
However, I am 19 and the rest of my friends are 21 or over. We weren't even planning on drinking alcohol. I am extremely mature for my age.
Apparently, Nordic Pines has a policy that unless you are with a family, no one under 21 is allowed.
That is ridiculous. No alcohol is allowed anyway, so what's the problem?
I will never recommend this campsite to anyone. They would not make an exception, or even explain to me why this policy is in place. GOOD RIDDANCE.
My fiancee and I and our dog visited Nordic Pines this summer on the fourth of July weekend and we just wanted to say that we LOVED this campground!!! It was so close to Devils Lake we simply crossed the road and we were there, we didnt have to pay the parking at the lake. The bathrooms were so clean and the staff were very friendly-they let us borrow their wire grill to place on the fire pit so we could grill. we HIGHLY recommend this campground and will be back again for our next trip out!!
