Description

April 2014, two compassionate friends, Mr. William Ilembo Johnson (a villager living at Bujora village, Magu district in Tanzania) and Ms. Sarah Dwyer (a volunteer from Australia who visited Tanzania in 2009 and 2013 consecutively) with the participation of goodwill people and the community of Bujora and Kisesa wards in Magu district, Mwanza region formed this non-profit education and empowerment centre for both the poor, rural children and community in Magu district.
Magu District where we are based is a rural district in Mwanza region, Northwestern of our country with a population estimated at 299,759 according to 2012 Census with a high rate of poverty and illiteracy.
There is still a great predominance of traditions and cultures practices in the mode of life of residents which affects the dignity respect and development of women and children mostly girls comparing with women and children living in the
city and other urban areas in Mwanza region where there is mixture of cultures, residents and a high rate of educated families.
Education is not necessarily given to children as a priority but just a privilege, girls and less fortunate children in this area face considerable challenges in getting access to education. For this reason and many others we have chosen to work first here.

This centre was born to be a response to the suffering of less fortunate rural children lacking access to education, care, love and good nutrition from the early age due to poverty and social circumstances but also the centre was born to be a hub of eradicating poverty in the community in order to make a self-reliant and responsible community capable to participate in the development of less fortunate children and protect them from any abuse based on social, cultural and economic factors.
After taking several months of analysis and preparations, in October 2014 we launched officially our activities by starting with an early childhood education program for less fortunate rural children aged between 3 to 6 years by giving them free early childhood care and education, nutrition and health support at our children’s centre built at Bujora village in Bujora ward, Magu district.

A part the less fortunate rural children we support, our early childhood education program being our main and principal activity is open to other children from the village who will be admitted in some conditions in order to respect non-discrimination policy of the Child welfare of our country and foster the community participatory approach of the centre.

The early childhood education program operates in a daily basis following the country school calendar and the poor children graduating from our children centre every year are connected with the few primary schools existing at Kisesa and Bujora wards under our efforts for further education as we are struggling to find a way to build our own primary school as it is an urgent need for the poor kids we support.
Our philosophy is to help the children while living in their communities and not separate them from their communities.
