Description

Before Maramag gained its name, there were two tribes who fought for supremacy regularly over the locality; the Manobos and the
Maranaos would usually take their breakfast on top of the flat stones
abound Pulangi River bank where they would invite everyone to
partake with them their meal with the enticing waters saying
“Ag Ramag” a contracted term for “Ag Ramag ki dini” which
means“Lets eat our breakfast here”, a verbal invitation extended to
the passers by.

Before or after a fight, the natives would refresh themselves by the waters which offer a very soothing feeling making the place a
breathing space from a travel, trekking, hunting and trapping.

As years go by, the ‘Dumagats’ or Christians started to arrive and settle near the place. Occasionally, after hunting, they stop on the same flat stones in order to take a break. As more and more Christian settlres occupied the place, it became commonly called as Maramag a homonym to the contracted Manobo phrase ‘Ag Ramag’. It was
then that Maramag got its name.
