Every year, thousands of endangered turtles make their way from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean to lay eggs on the Omani beaches. This annual migration is one of the Middle East's most remarkable wildlife events. Five turtle species are found in our waters- hawksbill, green, loggerhead, olive ridley and leatherback (all but the leatherback nest on Oman shores). Ras Al Jinz is known for the nesting of the threatened green turtle (#cheloniamydas). This is the only place where public can watch the nesting process of these amazing sea-giants. "The whole Turtle experience was great, but disappointed about the plastic on the beach. Considering the beach has private access only, I do realise most of the rubbish has been washed up from elsewhere. Regular cleanups seem like a great idea for this type of reserve. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was good, but food was limited."

"The eco tents were very spacious. Staying at the reserve means you're first out to view the turtles. Highly recommend doing this as it can get very busy. Evening meal was very good but breakfast was disappointing. Seeing the turtles was quite simply amazing. Watching turtles lay their eggs on the beach and their babies hatching. Wow! The guides are so knowledgeable and really care about the turtles. There are two tours - 830pm and 5am."

"It was truly a unique experience. During both turtle watching sessions I was able to see numerous green turtles. We were very lucky as one just started laying their eggs - "goosebump Moment". Other turtles returned back into the sea. In addition we watched lots of small turtles hatching and crawling to the sea. Beautiful moments I will never forget.
Especially about three points I was disappointed about.
1. Rubbish
There is lots of litter on the beach and on the hills around, which is all protected. I honestly do not understand why the reserve and especially the beaches are not cleaned regularly. Also from the side of the guides there seems to be now awareness about this topic. For example one guide saw flip flops, which were obviously thrown away. But instead of taking them back to the hotel, he made a joke and left them there.
Solution: Training on environmental awareness for guides and staff// regular cleaning of beaches and reserve
2. Turtle Hatching
It was an amazing experience to see turtles hatching and crawling back to the sea. However we were not properly instructed nor looked after during the sessions as during the night everyone was moving around on the beach without being able to see on what he/ she stands as it was pitch black. I do not want to know how many little turtles get smashed because of careless tourists.
Solution: everyone has to bring their own light. Once turtle is discovered, people walk carefully to turtle and switch off all lights expect of the one from the guide.
3. Group Size
In order to respect the nature and not to diatribe the environment too much, i believe the amount of people has to be limited and guides need to be trained more how to lead groups. We were approx. 40-50 people in 3-4 groups and it was pretty load with lots of light. In our group people were all over the place without being guided.
I hope my feedback helps you for the future.

"GuideS were ok, but visitors were not. There were too many people for this evening tour, some of them behave very unpropriate. It's still not a nesting seasone, but we saw one turtle and a baby turtle. We found another baby on the way back to the centre. Overall positive experience!"
"I thought the experience was great. The guide really wanted people to respect the turtles. However, we had a group of 8 children within our group. One child was throwing sand at the turtles, walked around the turtle while she was digging her hole to get to his father. It was such a distraction and took away from our experience. I would ask that there be a minimum age for these children who attend. I was still thankful to see the turtle and experience it. To be clear, I don't blame children for being children. I blame the fact tickets are sold to hem and then expect them to act like adults. Ask how many children are in your group and switch if there are too many. You will be so appreciative that you saw them in peace and quiet. It was a remarkable sight to see, along with the stars too."
"The turtle tour was such a disappoitment I can't even describe. Me and my partner took the morning tour on the 10th of october, which we reserved two weeks before. We received booking confirmation for the tour at 4:00. When we arrived 3:30 the doors were closed, nobody at the reception and we waited at the gate. Calls were in vain. Finally they came an hour later and informed us that the tour has been rescheduled to 5:00, without informing us previously since we have already reserved. So unprofessional, but we came for the turtles and were still positive about the tour.
Once the tour guide arrived everything went from bad to disaster!! He didnt even greet us, his only word were : "lets go, follow me!" i was baffled by the unkindness!! The whole group of cca 10 others and us followed him to the beach where we started to look for turtles. When we came to the end of the beach, his only words were "no turtles today", he sit down on the beach and ignored the whole group. We kept looking for turtles in the sun, while our "tour guide" sat in the sand, without any advice or effort!! Despite his predictions, we found 4 turtles on our own, he just didnt care. As a tour guide, I would expect some effort or some information about nesting and turtles, we have received none! It was really mind baffling how unkind and cold these people are, especially when working in tourism.
When the tour guide left, we stayed on the beach with the turtle we found and upon leaving the beach and walking through their hotel, NOONE at the reception (there were 2 people) said GOODBYE to us! Utter ignorance!!!
This is a complete scam and do not stay in this hotel or take their tour - beside their dirty beach (which they should have clean as a protective area) with turtles, there is nothing there worth your money. Hotel is below average, stay rather in Sur. For turtles, go to the public beach Ras al Haad near Sur, many turtles there and you dont have to pay anything! Locals will guide you."
