A family run farm 'Matariki' is a name handed down from generation to generation. Matariki being a Te Reo Moari word of New Zealand. In traditional times, Matariki was a season to celebrate and to prepare the ground for the coming year. Offerings of the produce of the land were made to the gods, including Rongo, god of cultivated food. This time of the year was also a good time to instruct young people in the lore of the land and the forest.
It is also the main star in a cluster of starts which can be seen in late May and early June.
Here at Matariki farm we love to grow organic produce and what we don't eat we provide to the community at a low cost to ensure there is a source of good fresh produce available at competitive rates.
We take pride in our soil and in the produce we grow. We appreciate nature in its strange and wonderful ways if your produce is not great well replace it or refund it. All funds go into expanding the gardens and growing more for the community.
