Booked a week trekking (Poonhill + Mardi Himal), with a guide (now "obligatory" all over Nepal) + 2 permits (ACAP + TIMS). The deal with the guide was that we had to pay for the guide's transport to/from the start/end of the circuit, and food and accommodation would be separate (we sort ours, he sorts his).
On the second day, the guide wanted us to stop and have lunch about 1h30 after we had started - we weren't hungry so didn't want to eat where he suggested, but said we would be happy to wait for him. He started getting angry & upset - we then found out that he had deals where he would eat for free in certain places, as long as we spent money there. As we had been told food was seperate and knew it was expensive in the mountains, we brought some with us, so as to not stop in restaurants for every meal. When we told him this, he said that he wouldn't be able to eat (because he would have to pay for it if we didn't buy anything!) and literally turned back and left us in the middle of the mountain, as we weren't willing to eat and stay wherever he told us to (seeing as it was OUR holiday and we wanted to chose where to spend OUR own money - as we were told it would be when we booked the trip) .
Before he left we had to repeatedly insist for him to hand over our ACAP permits (because there are checkpoints for them), which he angrily threw on the floor before leaving. The agency hadn't even got the TIMS permit - so basically they charged us for them & pocketed the money (aka stealing)
Thankfully, it was an easy to follow circuit so we just went on without the guide, and the police at the checkpoint were very understanding and let us continue.
Although the guide's behaviour was EXTREMELY unprofessional, I honestly blame the agency more for not paying their staff enough to even FEED themselves during their working hours, meaning that they depend on the tourist to fund this, so they try to force you to choose the restaurants/guesthouses that they have deals with. Not their fault, and I strongly suggest the agency (that charges western rates) pay their staff a fairer wage to avoid these kinds of issues.
Only good part was that we were able to get our money back, although they made a massive fuss about us asking for a receipt - "don't you trust us?" ... obviously not, after one of your guides LEFT US ALONE IN THE MOUNTAIN AND U TOOK $18 FROM US FOR A PERMIT YOU DID NOT GET...
I had a awesome rafting trip for 3 days which was perfectly organized. The crew was very experienced, I felt very safe and the food was absolutely delicious! We camped in the wild at the rider and were nothing missing. We got popcorn, tee and coffee, different main meals, pancakes and Chakchouka for breakfast. The rafting equipment was in a good condition and our captain was dealing perfect with every thrilling situation on the rafting boat.
Thanks very much for this awesome trip! :)
We had an amazing trek with Four Brothers (Yellow Swissa). We got Jaya as a guide who was soooo kind, caring, flexible and well experienced with much of knowledge about the mountains. He checked on us all the time, offered help and was patient on harder days without pushing us. The whole trek (8 days) to Pun Hill and Annapurna Base Camp was an experience of lifetime, and we felt so safe to have Bhuwan in the office as a background if anything happen. The guys in both offices (even in the Kathmandu office) are so helpful and nice. Highly recommended to go with them!
Thank you four brothers adventure team for your excellent services.
The company privides service transport to go and came back so you don't have to mind about anything and the price is really competitive here in Pokhara.
But the best thing is the kindly of the staff, really nice and friendly, they make you enjoy more the flight, with, of course, a fanyastic view.
Really suggested.
