The idea for Asahaya Education Service Center was conceived by Mr. Ram Prasad Prajapati and his family in 2063 BS. Mr. Prajapati is a local SME entrepreneur who was grief-stricken by the fact that local children were deprived of vital needs like education even in progressive times of the 21st century. The families of the children could not afford education for them and so the Prajapati family decided to help them out with their educational prospects.

The local residents proposed a few needy families in the area and the Prajapati family started small with a local group of 16 boys and 17 girls. They bore the financial cost of the school fees, stationery, uniform etc. for the children. Gradually they started supporting more kids from all around the Bhaktapur municipality.

However, 6 years of continual educational support to over 3 dozen children took its toll on the Prajapatis as well. To ensure further protection of educational rights for the children, the Prajapati family collaborated with local intellectuals and social workers to finally establish a foundation called Asahaya Education Service Center in 2066 BS. Today Ashaya Education Service Center provides educational support to 54 children all over Bhaktapur to help them broaden their horizon and make substantial people out of them.
