Description

We have pathology expertise in a wide variety of areas, including infectious diseases, anatomical pathology, forensic pathology, haematology, endocrinology, chemical pathology and veterinary pathology. We are also able to provide environmental testing, genetic and molecular testing, industrial and occupational health testing, clinical trials laboratory support and testing for life insurance purposes.
PathCare has been innovative over the years, being the first to introduce many of the service related improvements presently in the industry, including the first to provide venesection, the first to collect specimens from hospitals and doctors rooms, first to achieve SANAS accreditation to ISO 17025 and ISO 15189 standards, the first radio-immunoassay laboratory in private practice, the first computerised laboratory in Southern Hemisphere, the first robotic automated chemistry immunodiagnostics testing system, the first Liquid Based Cytology (LBC) accredited laboratory in South Africa, the first laboratory to do automated microbiology testing in Africa and the first laboratory with a training academy (over 120 students).

The practice originated in 1987 under the direction of Dr Jamie van Zyl and he operated under his name. He was later joined by Dr Marais Venter and the two of them formed an association with the South Africa group Dietrich, Street and partners in 1991. The laboratory was initially situated in the Swamed Centre but they later moved to Maerua Park.

• A satellite laboratory was opened in Walvis Bay (Welwitchia Hospital) in February 1994

• In September 1996 Mrs Marie Solomon joined the practice and after the departure of Dr van Zyl towards the end of 1998 she and Dr Venter formed Histochem Laboratories Namibia. In 1999 they opened small laboratories in both Swakopmund and Oshakati.

• In 2000 Drs Burger and van Greunen and Ms Linda Dodds joined the practice and formed Pathcare Namibia. In the following year satellite laboratories were opened at the Roman Catholic Hospital, in Keetmanshoop, Gobabis and Otjiwarongo. The Keetmanshoop and Gobabis laboratories were later closed.

• Dr Shaw joined the practice in 2002, Dr Roux in 2011, Dr Izaks in 2014 and Dr Colesky 2015.

• During the last number of years the practice has expanded and we have built a new state of the art laboratory in Eros and also built custom laboratories in Ongwediva and Swakopmund.

• Pathcare Namibia was the first ISO accredited laboratory in Namibia and this we achieved in 2002. All our laboratories in the country were accredited at that time and they remain accredited to this day.
