LENEPWHA is the only network in Lesotho of people living with HIV and Aids (PLHIV). We are mandated to represent, protect and promote the interests, rights and needs of PLHIV.
LENEPWHA acknowledges that people living with HIV and Aids are stigmatized and discriminated against in different ways. This in turn trickles down to the increase in new infections and deaths due to the fact people avoid being stigmatised and therefore do not access health services properly or at all.
We also realise the fact we need to empower our members to lead sustainable lives and to empower them to participate in the national response to HIV and Aids issues.
Lesotho ranks at number two (2) in the world for HIV prevalence, with 26,000 new infections reported in 2011 and 14,000 Aids-related deaths in the same year. These statistics are shocking and unacceptable, thus we need to take drastic measures to reverse these them.
Hence the creation of this page to pave the way for dialogue that BUILDS this nation and takes it out of the top 5 countries with high HIV prevalence and save lives.
We have reached some milestones in setting up support groups and assisting them to sustain themselves and we intend to reach even further milestones of reaching large numbers of people living with HIV and Aids and orphaned and vulnerable children.
We have been able to offer care and support in the form of educational support, legal support and referral to other services for orphaned and vulnerable children in Mokhotlong and Qacha's Nek.
