Monrovia, Liberia – Minister of Education Prof. Dr. Ansu Dao Sonii Sr. who statutorily serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Commission on Higher Education is encouraging colleges and universities whose operational permits have expired to seek renewal immediately. He reminds educators to remain law-abiding and transparent in their quest to provide education at all levels in Liberia.
Prof. Sonii confirms to continue working closely with the commission to ens...ure that all processes are appropriately coordinated and are in conformity with the Act governing the commission. Meanwhile, he warns that any establishment who has not been duly registered and accredited by the Commission on Higher Education found impersonating shall be held in violation and lawfully reprimanded.
The public is also asked to inform the commission and the Ministry of Education of any establishment presenting itself as a college or university other than the names listed below:
Notably, the Ministry confirms that the list of colleges and universities contained in the below link were accredited under the previous administration of the Commission on Higher Education.

2018 National Education Summit Commences “Prioritizing Education: Why We Should Care”
KAKATA, Liberia – Today, the Ministry of Education commenced the 2018 National Education Summit, which brings together a diverse group of local and international stakeholders to discuss the key priorities for education sector reform.
... The Summit theme – “Prioritizing Education: Why We Should Care” – is aimed at conveying the collective effort needed to provide quality education for every Liberian child.
Following an introduction by the Superintendent of Margibi County, Hon. Jerry Varnie, His Excellency President George Manneh Weah will open the event, highlighting his administration’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Education Reform. Minister of Education Professor Ansu D. Sonii, Sr. will then present the government’s priorities for the education sector from 2018-2028. The findings from the recently-concluded Nationwide Listening Tour will also be presented.
The Summit will also include panel discussions on six key themes:
1. Teacher Education & Professionalization 2. Monitoring, Supervision & Assessment 3. Learning Environment 4. Science, TVET & Higher Education 5. Stakeholder Engagement 6. Education Financing
The panels will include participation from representatives of the World Bank, USAID, UNICEF, the European Union, and a range of other international and Liberian partners. During the panels, there will be ample opportunity for stakeholders, education specialists, policy makers, business and community leaders, teachers as well as others with interest in seeing the Liberian education system succeed, to collaborate and shared ideas for improving the education sector.
The Summit will conclude with a synthesis of the discussions, which will form the basis of a refined strategy for the education sector.

We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to finance education, particularly given the budget constraints that we and many other countries are facing. In just 3 days, Liberian and international education stakeholders will gather at the 2018 National Education Summit in Kakata, Margibi County.
Each day leading up to the Summit, we are focusing on one key priority that will be addressed. The fourth priority for discussion at the Summit will be Science, TVET, and Higher Education.
A strong education system must not just teach our youth basic skills, it must also prepare them to enter the workforce. This will be a key theme of ...the Summit, during which we will discuss the possibility of implementing a three-track school system from 10th grade. We will also discuss how to ensure a uniform curriculum is implemented nationwide to improve learning outcomes and help more students to pass WASSCE and university entrance exams.

Providing a safe and sanitary learning environment is a key responsibility for the Ministry of Education and one we take very seriously. At the Summit, we will address issues ce...ntral to improving the learning environment for all Liberian students.
We will discuss the strategies for improving school infrastructure, looking at the feasibility of adding additional labs, libraries, and school farms. We will also discuss how to ensure access to education for all, focusing on girls’ education and inclusive education.

Each day leading up to the Summit, we are focusing on one key priority that will be addressed. The second topic on the agenda will be Monitoring, Supervision & Assessment.
Continuous monitoring, supervision, and assessment are essential for improving the quality of education provided to all Liberian children.... Without it, we have no way of tracking whether reforms are producing tangible results or determining whether teachers or schools require additional support to reach their full potential.
As the representatives of the Ministry in communities across the country, District and County Education Officers (DEOs and CEOs) play a crucial role in this effort. The Summit will provide an opportunity for them to share their views.
During the Summit, specific elements of the Ministry’s monitoring and evaluation capabilities will be discussed, including the EMIS system and the School Quality Assessment (SQA).
