St John’s College, Jaffna is one of the oldest private educational institutions in Sri Lanka, founded by the London Missionaries (CMS) in 1823. The founder missionary the Rev. Joseph Knight, who arrived in 1818, initiated the establishment of the school at Nallur. From the inception, the school has been imparting a holistic education, with the curricular and co-curricular activities along with the inculcation of good discipline. The school has produced a number of eminent and outstanding personalities in all walks of life. Today after 190 years of smooth and rough sails the school continues to fulfil the ideals that the founders laid. The school has extended its hand of mercy and support to the people in Sri Lanka proving itself to be a Christian value based service oriented institution.

The Vision, Mission, Aims & Objectives of the College are based on the verse,
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
