Description
Among the six regional centre’s of the Open University of Sri Lanka Kandy Regional Centre which is situated in Polgolla, Kandy plays a prominent place in catering to the higher educational needs of the people in the central province through Open and Distance learning system since 1982.
Currently then centre is providing tertiary education through a variety of qualification ranging from one year certificate programs to Diplomas, Degrees and Postgraduate Degrees to a larger number of students in the fields of Engineering Technology, Natural Sciences, Education and Social Sciences. The KRC has extensively contributed towards the professional development of the graduate teachers through the post graduate Diploma in education programme.
During the last three decades the centre has produced a large number of Lawyers/Legal graduates for the country. In the same way the faculties of natural sciences and Engineering Technology have added the considerable amount of graduates to the national productivity of the country.
Ever demanding General English programmes has uplifted the knowledge of English among the community in the region. To enhance the basic Computer and the software skills of the school leavers of the region the Certificate in Computer Literacy programme has played an eminent role since the establishment of the centre. Among the nearly introduced programme, Bachelor of Management Studies and BA in Social Science too are being popularized among youth in the region steadily.
In addition to above achievements, it is pleasure to admit that the KRC with its available physical and human resources , functions efficiently and effectively in the order to quench the higher educational thirst of the national community while cooperates with other study centre’s which come under the purview of Kandy administrative cluster located in Kegalle, Hatton, Nuwaraeliya, Bandarawela, Badulla & Matale.
