The Jamaica Kidney Kids Foundation (JKKF) is a charity founded in 2012 with the goal to improve the care of children with kidney disease across Jamaica, especially the disenfranchised segment of society for whom it is next to impossible to afford treatment elsewhere.
We achieve our goals by:
- Hospital support: Providing supplies to hospitals that care for such children (e.g. supplying the paediatric dialysis service at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) with consumables needed for life saving dialysis).
- Education: Hosting conferences, workshops, and public exhibitions to inform doctors and the public about new developments in renal care and the maintenance of good kidney health.
- Education: The JKKF Scholarship Fund – Financing Paediatric Nephrology Fellowships abroad for Jamaican paediatricians aspiring to train and return to Jamaica to ease the local shortage of paediatric kidney specialists (Paediatric Nephrologists)
- Monthly outreach clinics at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Western Jamaica
- Family Support Group: Providing emotional support for families of children with kidney disease
The Directors of this Foundation are:
- Dr. Maolynne Miller,
- Mr. William Tavares-Finson,
- Mr. Craig Chin,
- Mr. Andrew Cocking, and
- Professor Minerva Thame.

See MoreHow much water should you drink? The answer is as much as possible. The human body is comprised of 75% water, and without it we wouldn't survive. Water is essential in maintaining a healthy kidney. Recommendations vary on how much water wr should drink per day, but JKKF recommends starting by swapping out sugary drinks during mealtime for a glass of water instead. A tip if you dislike the taste of water, add a few drops of lemon juice with slices of ginger and cucumber to give it some pizzazz. Happy drinking!
Happy Thursday! How important are our kidneys? More important than we realize. Part of our mission at JKKF, is to help in spreading awareness of kidney health and how important it is to take care of our kidneys. Kidney function includes helping to remove poisons and waste from our bodies. Without this, our bodies become sick and as result can lead to death. Your body is a temple that deserves to be nourished and taken care of. When you feel good, you look even better and the world becomes your oyster. Please help us in our cause by helping to share information to friends and family regarding kidney health and function. Your life depends on it!
#didyouknow? Three interesting facts about kidney function in the human body. JKKF would like to encourage its followers to start being mindful about the importance of kidney health. This starts with habits such as swapping out soft drinks and juices for water, exercising more frequently and watching less television so you don't become sedentary. A healthy kidney=a happy body. #kidneyhealth #kidneyfacts #jamaicakidneykidsfoundation #healthiswealth
