Description
After years of living and working in different cities, the meaninglessness of mundane urban lifestyle in the name of growth and modernization hit me hard. Over the years, I developed a serious interest to lead a self-sustainable life growing my own food, closely connected with nature. I took the plunge last year, quit my job and started pursuing my passion - natural farming.
I returned to my hometown, spent months treating the land organically, in an effort to restore the fertility of the soil. It was because of the inspirations which I drew from people like Nammazhwar Ayya, Senthamizan (Semmai Vanam), Seeman, Krishna(Solitude farm, Auroville, Pondicherry) that I got a strong base and awareness on practicing natural farming.
What started off as a one man's journey, soon had a lot of friends, mentors and family members joining hands for help. Mullaivanam is an acre of land where Subash Palekar’s Zero budget natural farm - 5 layer model has been now successfully implemented. We also cultivate vegetables, greens, paddy, groundnut, blackgram, ragi and a few other seasonal crops in another piece of land. We apply permaculture techniques and traditional farming practices in our land and grow healthy, natural food.
Besides, we also put in serious efforts to educate the farmers in the locality on the goodness of natural farming, the importance of restoring the ecological balance in the area and also open up Mullaivanam to various community farming initiatives.
