We were honored to welcome home heroic diver Jim Warny earlier today. Jim, a Lufthansa Shannon Technician, was part of the incredible dive team who helped rescue the 12 boys and their coach in Thailand earlier this week. One word...Amazing! #homecomings #legend #ThailandCaveRescue

User (13/07/2018 19:48)
Shannon Airport today hosted one of its great homecomings, as Ennis based diving expert Jim Warny touched down after taking part in the heroic rescue mission for 12 Thai students and their soccer coach, that gripped the world. The scene of high-profile homecomings over the years, today’s arrival at Shannon was one of the most joyous as friends of the Belgian national, who has lived in Ennis for 15 years, gathered to salute his participation in the heroic rescue that touched ...hearts across the globe. As he walked through the arrival gates, the Lufthansa engineer was met with a deafening chorus of cheers. The father-of-one had an emotional reunion with his fiancee Asia Mania, his dad Rene Warny and members of the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation. Mr Warmy was one of an elite, 19 member multi-national group of divers drafted into assist in the unprecedented rescue mission due to his extensive caving knowledge. An emotional Mr Warny said he was relieved to be home. “I am very happy to be back with my family, my fiancee and my dad. I know they have been worried. “I am very fortunate to have been able to do this. The true heroes are those boys who have endured way more. Beaming with pride Asia Mania said she was “very happy” to have her fiancee home. “I was worried for him but he is so good at what he does. He goes caving and diving constantly and I have complete trust in him, he is the best.” Mr Warny’s dad Rene, also paid tribute to his son. “I am very proud of him and there is someone up, his mother, in heaven who is very proud of him too.” Said Shannon Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy: “We’ve had many great homecomings here; in recent years the likes of John Burke after his successful assault on Everest and Andy Lee after winning his world title. But Jim Warny, by virtue of what he did this week in helping save the lives of these young boys is right up there amongst the most heroic we have welcomed back here over the years. “This was a rescue that captured world attention. We could even see that from people coming through the airport, stopping to watch bulletins on it on the tv in our lounge. Save for the tragic death of the Thai navy diver Saman Gunan who lost his life during the rescue programme, a death that no doubt hit Jim and his colleagues hard, the outcome in Thailand was beyond what most could have expected. To have someone living here in Clare, in the west of Ireland, involved in this is an incredible source of pride for us all and it’s only right we would have afforded him this welcome.”

***Shannon’s ongoing growth accelerated as 2018 six-month figures show 6.6% increase. Airport on track for busiest year in over a decade.***
Shannon Airport’s continued resurgence has been accelerated with half-year figures for 2018 revealing a 6.6% increase in passenger numbers. The increase puts Shannon on track by year end to have grown passenger numbers by almost 30% from what they were prior to separation from the state airports’ group. The surge across the first six mon...ths suggests also that 2018 will be Shannon’s best year as an independent entity outside of 2014 when double digit growth was achieved. Similar to 2014, the strong performance in the first half of this year is driven by additional and improved services. These include a new Toronto flight launched early last month with Air Canada and new services to Barcelona-Reus, Bristol and Liverpool with Ryanair, while the airline also increased Manchester frequencies. There’s also more to come, with Norwegian Air International expanding its Shannon/New York service later in the year, enhancing an already very strong 2018 on transatlantic for Shannon, with six airlines operating to seven destinations – the airport’s biggest number of services to the US/Canada in 17 years. Ryanair also recently announced it is to go year-round on Alicante, Spain from this winter.
Said Shannon Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy: “We’re delighted with the year so far. We’re reaping the dividend from the hard work of last year in securing these new services and it’s great to see the airport as busy as it is. This is our busiest first half of the year in a decade. “If anything, the year so far reaffirms the opportunity that there is for growth at Shannon and we see that opportunity opening up even more now with the completion of the motorway right up to Tuam and, in the longer term, we have the M20 being developed to Cork. Our target now is to make sure that the public are aware of these services and use them.”
Said Shannon Group CEO Matthew Thomas: “It’s going to be a really positive year for Shannon. The team at the airport has worked really hard and this validates the confidence we have in our capacity to grow services and passenger numbers and, in doing so, deliver real gains to the region. “Our recently published Economic Impact Assessment for the wider group shows we have the potential to stimulate another 7,150 jobs and €577 million in economic impact for the Irish economy by 2021 but central to this is growth of passenger numbers. The more we grow, the better it is for the region.”

The world’s largest collection of model aircraft has gone on permanent show in the most appropriate home possible for it – the very airport where the obsession began for a collector to purchase 1,500 plus specialist diecast models.
Farranshone, Limerick man Michael Kelly (67) has put his incredible aircraft collection on view in Shannon over six decades after his preoccupation with aircraft as a young boy began there.
The collection, which the retired fitter/plumber began assembling from his mid-teens and spent €25,000 each year on at its peak, outgrew his old farmhouse home just 400m from the River Shannon but has found a new one at Shannon Airport. It will be officially opened in the autumn but is already on display and getting huge attention from passengers as they marvel at the vastness and uniqueness of the permanent exhibition.

What a joy it is to travel out of Shannon airport. You arrive at departure entrance, right inside is the check in desk. . A minutes walk away up the escalator and you are going through security. . Liquids out of the bag security done and dusted. . No big walk to the departure gates either. We travelled with 3 kids and with out a doubt shannon is the way to go. . .

User
We’ve taken full use of the sensory room which is a first ever in our many travels. I really really really approve !

User
We did the Santa flight today and every bit of it was brilliant, from meeting Mrs Clause at the start to dancing with the elves and Elsa, seeing Santa on the plane and then sitting in the fire engine at the end. It was so well organized and there wasn’t a moment for the children to become bored. 5* well done!

User
Shannon is my favorite airport in the world. It's not very accessible by public transport, there's not a lot of food options BUT you won't find a friendlier airport. The view when landing into Shannon is also pretty special. You can see why it's call the Emerald Isle. Stunning.

User
Shannon Airport is a great airport. We, all the communities in Flare and Limerick need to lobby very strongly our councillors, TDs and the government to secure more flights to Europe from Shannon. It is not fair that all the people from the mid west and west have to travel to Dublin airport at totally unsocialable hours to get flights to Europe. Remember buses travel both ways therefore people from Dublin can get buses to Dublin from Shannon the same way that people for the mid west have to take buses to and from Dublin to get flights to Europe - not exactly fair!!!

User
Shannon Airport is a blessing in the West of Ireland. Very easy jump from JFK to Shannon, has precleareance for US travel. When you land at Shannon you see the beautiful green grass and blue skies that represent Ireland so well. Rent a car to start your tour of the lovely countryside and return to Shannon to depart. But always say, I'll be back since it's so easy to get to\from Shannon.

User
My friend was raving about Shannon this morning, so I got her permission to post this here.

Credit where credits due.

"I flew into Shannon airport this morning and at passport control I was given a lovely greeting . A gentleman I’d never met before , took my passport , smiled at me and said ‘welcome home’

I actually can’t remember the last time I was greeted like this in Dublin airport. It’s gets better while I was waiting for the bus to Dublin the chap before the counter in Ruddles Bar in the airport greeted all the men with ‘happy fathers day’ Even if you weren’t a daddy , once you were male ye got the greeting

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who take their parenting vocation to heart and love , embrace and cherish their role in being a father. Children care more about what we do as parents as opposed to what we say were going to do.

To all the mammies who have or are doing both roles, I can tell you this.. Hang in there , it’s a tough road and I know for sure it gets easier. Time goes by so quickly and on the days when you feel it’s too much , tell yourself ‘I’m doing the best that I can with all that I have’ . Forgive your short comings and promise yourself to do and be better. We are all work in progress it’s what we do with the progress that counts.

Grá mor "

User
Love flying from & to this great airport, easy parking, friendly staff & the new motorway from Tuam make it so much easier

User
Love Shannon airport! My husband lost his favourite watch there on Sunday & they found it & came and returned it to him while we were waiting for our flight. Such a friendly, relaxed airport, hate having to fly in/out of anywhere else

User
Love Shannon Airport so near from my home to airports door one hour 20 mins, then when inside only takes half hour to gate paying a little Extra goes a long way, up Shannon Airport.

User
I just want to say that the lady who was working at the taxi desk yesterday before the storm kicked off is an absolute Saint of a woman. She really went above and beyond to make sure that everyone got to where they needed to be as quickly as possible.

User
I flew out last week and arrived too late to check in my bags but thanks to the exceptionally lovely people in security (especially Patrick Slattery) they took our bags through and got us down to the boarding gate on time where the lady from Ryanair was fab and tagged our bags straight away and got us organized. they were all so nice and helpful. I can’t thank ye enough for getting me and my family off on our holiday with all our luggage in tact! Thanks again

User
Hello all! Used Shannon Airport yesterday..what a breeze! You should run an Irish and UK as campaign called, “ Shannon - the 30-second Airport!”.

It took me 30-seconds walk from Long-term parking to Check-in. 30-seconds from Check-in to Security. 30-seconds going through Security. 30-seconds going from Security to the coffee stop. And...30 seconds from coffee to Gate 6 for boarding which...took less than 30 seconds. Staff across all areas were chirpy so well done! My own “private” airport.

User
Flew from Shannon 2 weeks ago with my 2 kids and with my son who is autistic. I cannot praise the staff there enough! We were given a tour by the lovely duty manager Natasha the week before and the staff were so friendly, understanding and helpful that I would only ever fly from here again with my kids. The sensory room was a fantastic addition and really took the stress out of the time we spent at the airport. Great job to all the staff and thank you very much!

User
Did a lot of business with Shannon Airport duty free shop many years ago. Tom Kinerns and Michael Richardson were the two gentlemen I had the pleasure of doing business with, Lord Rest them both. Will always have fond memories of them and Shannon. John.

User
Despite a direct SFO to Dublin flight, I always opt for a stopover to fly into Shannon. It's a great airport with great people. There is a friendliness at Shannon that doesn't exist at most airports in the world.

User
Easy to navigate and friendly staff. Would appreciate a drinking fountain to fill water bottles (none to be had) and recycling containers (none to be had).

User
I was in Shannon airport a week ago I think its good airport but quite dirty upstairs where the resturant and lounge area is the floor and seats are not clean

User
Flew out from Shannon to Malaga on Thursday, it was like a Cattle Mart. No organization in Bar, everybody fighting to get food and drink and then ONE Barman had the neck to look at his mobile phone whilst pulling a pint. SHANNON GET YOUR UNTRAINED staff in Order for Summer. It was horrendous...love our local Airport but it was so unmanned last Thur. Maybe allocate Jobs rather than have All Staff doing everything it was Awful. The WH Smith shop was same, queue out the door crazy..... it is just a Small Airport after all.

User
Walked up to security to show boarding pass and was told i was in the wrong queue , apparently i was in fast lane and workers. I was made to go in to the longer zig zag lane by security guard. Who explained he wasn't joking when asked . THERE WAS NOBODY THERE ! At all in either lane PC gone mad. I felt very embarrassed by his conduct . This airport is empty most of the time , now i know why ! The security screening also need looking at as , over the top staff , maybe to keep their jobs as there os more staff than passengers ,
