Lincoln United F.C. is an English football team which plays in the Northern Premier League Division One South. 'The Whites', as they are commonly known, play at the Ashby Avenue ground, which backs on to Hartsholme Country Park in Lincoln.HistoryLincoln United Football Club began life as Lincoln Amateurs in 1938 and were admitted to the Lincoln League. In 1951, they signed a professional player from Nottingham Forest, which meant that they could no longer qualify as amateurs. After a brainstorming session between the players following an away match in Sleaford, they came up with the name Lincoln United.They joined the Yorkshire Football League in 1967, and won the Second Division title in their opening campaign. They won the Yorkshire League on two occasions; 1970–71 and 1973-74. They joined the Northern Counties East Football League (NCEL) when it formed in 1982, winning Division One South before leaving for the Central Midlands Football League (CMFL) in 1986.Their spell in the CMFL lasted six seasons, the last of which saw United win the Supreme Division title and promotion back to the NCEL. They won the NCEL Division 1 title at the first time of asking in 1993, and just two years later they became champions of the NCEL Premier Division, gaining promotion to the Northern Premier League (NPL).
