Le Refuge Madawaska a connu ses débuts en raison d’un urgent besoin d’aider les animaux au Nord-Ouest du Nouveau-Brunswick. Aucun refuge n’était présent dans cette région malgré le nombre important d’animaux abandonnés, errants, négligés ou maltraités et euthanasiés sans raison médicale. Les femmes du tout premier Comité Administratif du Refuge Madawaska Shelter ont joint leurs efforts et leur expertise pour venir en aide.

Elles ont d’abord commencé à opérer sous le nom de Refuge Virtuel Comté Madawaska grâce au réseau social populaire Facebook, le 6 mars 2012. Elles ont immédiatement connu du succès. Le 10 août 2012, l’organisme fut incorporé sous le nom actuel, soit le Refuge Madawaska Shelter Inc. Depuis son ouverture en mars jusqu’en août 2012, le refuge a réussi à placer plus de 70 animaux dans de nouvelles familles! Grâce à la générosité des gens et des entreprises de la région et de la détermination de ses bénévoles, le Refuge Madawaska Shelter continue d’aider les animaux de la région.

Le Refuge Madawaska Shelter est présentement à la recherche d’un emplacement permanent et central, et redouble d’efforts pour faire des rêves de son Comité Administratif, une réalité, soit d’ouvrir ses « vraies » portes dans un avenir rapproché.

The Madawaska Shelter was created due to an urgent need to help the animals in the northwestern New Brunswick region. In fact, no shelter was established in the region despite the large amount of abandoned, strays, neglected or abused animals and the number of euthanasia without any medical reasons. The administrative committee of the Madawaska Shelter joined their efforts and expertise to help.

The committee first began to work under the name of Virtual Refuge Madawaska County through the popular social network of Facebook, March 6, 2012. They immediately had a great success. On August 10, 2012, the organization was incorporated under the current name, the Madawaska Shelter Inc. Since its opening in March until August 2012, the shelter was able to find permanent families to more than 70 animals! Thanks to the great generosity of the residents and companies in the community and to the incredible determination of its volunteers, the Madawaska Shelter continues to provide help to the animals of the region.

Madawaska Shelter is currently looking for a permanent and central location, and is putting all the effort needed to make its administrative committee’s dreams a reality; to hopefully open its real doors in a near future.
