The private garden at Hummingbird is less than a year old (apart from the battered Lolblolly which survived Irma, drought and many other challenges) but is really coming along nicely. It's cool and colourful and you can sit and watch crafty ground lizards, buzzy bees and lots of different birds. No grand design, I basically replanted things from my garden or gratefully accepted gifts of plants from friends that I knew didn't need a lot of care and would grow quickly. You will... find loads of Aloe Vera to attract Hummingbirds (not seen one in this side of the garden yet but hopefully soon) and a lovely Lemongrass bush for tea as well as Seagrape tree that seeded itself elsewhere and two mature Frangipani's that had been hiding in my garden and deserved their time center stage! The Papaya and Passionfruit trees just grew by magic (or as some call it Irma manure). I now have a gas BBQ courtesy of my friend so guests can grill outside - and when budget allows I will add a little outdoor kitchen to complete the amenities :) Hoping to add some more herbs and fruits over time so future guests can pick and enjoy during their stay.

Happy to say that Hummingbird has welcomed a number of happy Airbnb guests since we opened in November. Check out this lovely review from recent guest (and new friend) Ann Gerhart :) "My husband and I could not have been more delighted with and comfortable in this charming cottage, with its thoughtful touches throughout and its beautiful garden and sitting area. The location of Hummingbird is exceptional: It's less then a two-minute ride or a moderate walk from some of the ...world's most beautiful beaches--Meads Bay, Barnes Bay and Maundays Bay, all with great food and drink. It's quiet without being isolated. We are longtime and frequent visitors to Anguilla and know the island very well; for first-timers, it's easy to learn where Hummingbird is in location to everything you would want, but I'd recommend a car at least for a few days. (And getting out and about is part of the real experience of exploring this inviting Caribbean nation.) We loved our week in our space, with its airy vibe and decorative flourishes; the owner has a lovely eye for color and furnishings and utilizing the small space. The bed is firm, the shower is spacious, the seating is inviting. I had to work a bit while there, and that was more pleasant than I could have hoped. (strong wifi, never went out.) The place was neat as a pin and spotlessly clean. And the owner was so prompt and gracious with our questions and requests; one day, a beach umbrella magically appeared alongside the fence. We already are scheming our return. and are scheming to make our return."

Make sure you get on a boat and explore the waters when you visit Anguilla. Try a dive with the fantastic Dougie and hope to spit a dolphin. :)

Hummingbird is still available between Jan 20th and Feb 13th so if you want to beat the winter blues and are looking for affordable chic accommodation in Anguilla's West End please be in touch! Here is the most recent review from Airbnb guest Adam: I can't say enough good things about my stay at Trudy's...The pad is a very chill, comfortable spot. The little yard area is all yours, perfect for morning coffees and evening beverages. Walking distance to a few beaches, restauran...ts, bars, and markets. I stayed four days and wish I could have extended my stay. 100% recommended to anyone visiting Anguilla. And one from Nicole who stayed in November: This place was perfect for me. I took a weekend trip over from another island and Trudy's place was exactly what I was looking for. The room is great, the bed is comfy. The yard is adorable and very private. There is a great restaurant right next door for dinner if you don't feel like traveling far. It's lively, but not noisy or intrusive. The location is great, very close to several of the best beaches on the island, supermarket, restaurants. Trudy was wonderful and friendly. She gave great advise for local tips and restaurants. I can't wait to come back, and I'll definitely be looking to stay here again!
